What are you going to tow with the new car Gwyn? You'll have to be careful with that engine, it's a good 'un, but not ideal for towing....

I have to agree with David that it may not be ideal for towing (larger objects) but 'maybe' my views are down to the fact that I am a dinosaur who runs around in a brilliantly wallowy old Citroen with a 4 cyclinder 2.2 diesel and only ever uses his towbar as a parking sensor against walls and the like

To be honest Gwyn, the newer Fords are vastly under-rated according to our fleet mechanic dude in work and whilst I do not know about the engine you have, given that Ford and the PSA Group (Peugeot/ Citroen) share development of engines (particulalry diesels) I would be very surprised if that does not turn out to be extremely good

ps I like my old 2.2 as it has 16 valves and twin balancer shafts making it a very smooth diesel - this may sound like gobledegook but if any of you out there have a Jaguar 2.2d, later Ford 2.2d or Landrover Freelander 2.2 td4 chances are you have the same engine as my old C5 and you will know what I mean for the techies out there the 2.2 is a 'DW12' - ooops - boring alert

All this car talk is getting serious. Hi Gwyn hope you are feeling better. Well enough to go and enjoy your new car. It`s such a nice thing having a new one, the smell, how clean it is etc.
Enjoy life

It can tow 1200kg, but it won't, the tow bar is for a bike carrier mostly, and maybe a small trailer to take stuff to the tip.
Not planning on sticking a six berth caravan behind it .

That's a relief! I think 1200kg would be a test for this car, even if the engine was up to it the car is not heavy enough.

BTW, I have a caravan and it's fantastic for getting out into the middle of nowhere at reasonable cost. Trips up to the Lakes for example, so message to Hardgravity - don't knock it!

Caravans in themselves are fine.

It just seems that when in France trying to cover distance the limiting factor is usually Dutch registered caravans blocking the motorways, sometimes in all 3 lanes!!

Then there was the Dutch one going up the Col du Turini, a road only just wide enough for 2 small cars to pass.

It always seems to be the Dutch!

Sorry Gwyn.

No probs HG. I hate being stuck behind caravans too - especially Dutch ones.
In their defence Dutch school children are not allowed to be taken out of school for a holiday (huge fines if you do!) so everyone is restricted to a very small time period. They do spread the school holidays over the the regions so that one region starts at the beginning of July, the second a week or two later and the last a week or two after that, but it does mean every weekend in the summer there are Dutch towing caravans through France one way or the other.
At least they then all congregate together on the same campsites.

I love caravan holidays. The last one we stayed in had 4 bedrooms (1 double) and 2 separate toilets and a shower, a kitchen and living room. more of a small bungalow really. They had one for sale for only £68,000 more if you wanted the outside decking area. I was so tempted

I've nothing against caravan holidays. We used to own a static caravan. I understand completely both static and towing caravans and the pleasure they bring to many people. I'd happily holiday in a static again.
I just don't like being stuck behind them as they go to wherever they are going.
Luckily we usually go away outside the main holiday periods so don't suffer too much.

Anyway I've played with the sat-nav and can't seem to turn the voice to anything but a drunken adenoidal Dutch woman. Will be looking for a replacement SD card at this rate.

It's raining. Just for a change.

It's my birthday tomorrow so we are all going for pancakes tomorrow lunchtime .

Thank you, I'm sure I'll enjoy my day.

Meanwhile a taste of things to come for us, but really unusual in Oz ; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-19932805
