I get annoyed if my speed drops to 16Mbs!

Normally get to about 50Mbs but I am on a good exchange. Once FTP comes in in the next year or so should be on about 300Mbs.

The two things I check before buying a house - broadband speed and number of curry houses which can deliver!!

First bottle open, Jenning's Cocker Hoop, a refreshing light ale.

Gareth, get a house in Idle, too many curry houses deliver and , despite my gripe, Virgin aren't that bad...

I wonder which camera box this was found in:

WARNING

This camera is subject to breakdowns during periods of critical need

A special circuit in the camera called a critical detector, senses the operator's emotional state in terms of how desperate he or she is to capture the shot.

The critical detector then creates a malfunction proportional to the desperation of the operator.

Threatening the camera with violence only aggravates the situation. Likewise, attempts to use another camera may cause it also to malfunction - they belong to the same union!

Keep cool and say nice things to the camera. Nothing else seems to work. Never let a camera know you are in a hurry.

Stan

So, for years I've been trying to attract and photograph Goldfinches with total failure being the result.

This morning, whilst having breakfast, there on next door's feeder was...

...a goldfinch!!!

Unfortunately the angle through the window made it hard to get any photos. I live in hope, yet again.

After a dearth of birds I was amazed to see Goldfinches in the garden after having put up a Nyger Seed feeder only 24 hours previously. Haven't got any decent photos mainly because they tend to feed from the "other" side of the feeder, and other more unlikely excuses

Just got back from the Highlands. I was helping a friend with some filming for his research. We were in Glen Nevis when the hordes of bity things descended

We had to rush the work and head out fast. Our combination of bog mytrle, DEET and skin so soft hardly kept the evil ones from biting.

An hour later we were filming again in Glencoe when my friend complained of midges on the lens of his camera. I said get on with the job - its time for tea. He carried on moaning about the midges and I realised that there were none flying around. Yes the little horrors had get inside the video camera lens system Well MR Grumpy was very Grumpy all night. No more research filming/time wasted/have to return home you can imagine the situation.Only beer saved the night.

The next morning no midges on the lens! Missing presumed deceased! I still can't work out how they got behind the fromt element of the lens.

Midges are 90% determination and 10% teeth so they WILL get in everywhere

They only attack people living south of the border. Part of Mr Salmon's masterplan!

Heading to Mull next weekend. As in Mull the island, not as in mull to think.

My two penn'orth on the BT/Virgin discussion.

I have been with Virgin ISP and calls for ages, but had a BT phone line. BT's customer service eventually got so bad that I transferred my phone line rental to Virgin which was chwaper than BT. A while later I was browsing a picture heavy site and it struck me the connection was quite quick so I checked it. I was getting up to 14mb/s. This is about three times as fast as when I had the BT line. A bit of digging revealed that BT had given me a basic ADSL connection, but the Virgin connection was ADSL2+.

When you say "the problem with Virgin..." it might not be Virgin at fault.

The virgin connection I have is optical, their lineand their line only, and that's it.

So any problem I may have is with Virgin.

AS for mull gareth, isn't wine involved?
