Another pointless thread

Just come back from a walk. Got cought in a torrential downpour. Main street is flooded. Tried to take some pics of it and got a flickering white back display. Camera (K10D+kit) had been working fine for an hour or so.
So I'm soaked to the skin, fed up, got a sick camera basking in the airing cuboard

How dare you imply that Pentax cameras are susceptible to the elements!

Hang your head in shame.

As for Peterborough, I worked for two companies based there and both the projects were an unmitigated disaster.

It's odd how some things work.

There was no evidence of water behind the lens assembly (I assume this is the vunerable part as the camera has all its buttons/knobs sealed, I thought)

The flickering white display gave way to a totally blank screen, no start up, nothing.

Is this likely to be serious or has a warm airing cupboard got a fighting chance.
I've taken out the battery and SD card (both totally dry)

regards
Bernard.

PS - Been to Peterborough many times on business, worst part was the trek along the A47

My advice is to leave it there as long as possible. Even better, if you have any silica about, put that around it.

Most electronics should be fine when dried. It is best to leave the battery out. I'd also take the lens off to let the air circulate as much as possible.

Obviously dry heat is best so make sure there are no damp towels in there.

(I once stuck my 'George Foreman' style grill in the dishwasher and left it to dry for a couple of weeks. It was fine. But screens are a different thing.)

I have taken the lens off. The K10D's in the airing cupboard inside a large pastic bag, inside which there are a dozen or so silica gel bags. I put it in a large bag so as not to get dust and fluff inside the now open camera.

I think your torrential downpour just passed us Bernard. On the path around the house the water was rising above the air bricks. My neighbour and I were out fighting a losing battle brushing the water down manhole covers.

My waterproof shoes are in the airing cupboard drying but I think they are past the silica gel stage.

Note to self. Write to shoe manufacture letting him know the hole in the top of the shoe is not water tight.

P.S. I will not complain about Oban again

Didn`t rain yesterday and thanks to a forum user I got a good look at a Bigmos. Hope it`s going to be fine this weekend and I didn`t delay the rain by a couple of days.My Bigmos should arrive tomorrow.

I've reported a number of these to JR. What annoys me is they are forever quoting ME and then other people start quoting THEM so I get no credit for my witty and insightful comments!

On another matter, I have an advert saying I can win £500 to spend at Primark! Surely that's the entire stock value of the company!

Anything for an easy life! Although I still can't work out why it's my fault that the fridge doesn't work when the door is left open.
