Another pointless thread

I seem to remember the banks, especially those with big investment arms, had to keep the investment, and commercial (our every-day banking services)parts separate. That way, if the investment arm screwed up and went bust, OUR money was safe, and if that commercial arm went belly up, OUR money was backed by insurance.
Now, not sure if it works the same way in the UK as it does in the US, but those safeguards were removed some time ago, so that the banks now include OUR money in it's investment portfolio, so if the investments go bad, WE lose our money as well. But, that same government guaranteed insurance now covers the banks losses, as well as ours. A win-win for the banks, as they are covered by taxpayer money for losses.
Makes me laugh when I see them on the news defending the big bonuses, saying how they need to pay them to keep the "talent" in the city. Would that be the same "talent" that worked tirelessly to create the mess we are all in now, for short term, get rich quick personal gain?

Up the workers! Rant over.

Just been looking on the RBS website and discovered that they own Churchill insurance!

And Direct line..

and Green Flag..

as well as a host of other things!

So we didn't just rescue a bank with bad management, we rescued half the insurance industry as well!!!

Why was I looking, to make sure my credity card payment went through, that's all, now I just feel well and truly ripped off by politicians...
Not for much longer. The insurance business is being spun off.

When is the best time to re-pot an oak tree. I've grown this from an acorn and think it's ready for a bigger pot but don't want to disturb it until it is the best time to do so.

My guess would be 'before it's too big to lift'.

However other opinions are available: link

Thanks for the link Gareth, very helpful. Will look for something suitably decorative that Mrs Snap approves of.

Stan,
Providing you're not disturbing the root system, it's like transplanting any pot plant/shrub/bedding plant/etc ie whenever is convenient.

If you're likely to disturb the roots (dramatically) leave it until late autum.

I know this link is photography related, and, even worse, from the Daily Mail, but the photos are stunning.

Maybe it's trying to tell you something?

Go warm up at the distillery, or have some chocolates at the Oban Chocolate company. Try their Marmite chocolates, or failing that their chilli ones.

Whenever I go to Peterborough something goes badly wrong with whatever company or project I'm working on.

Just like whenever Born to Run plays on my iPod or the radio I get stuck in a traffic jam.

At least it does not rain as much in Peterborough as it does in Oban

My brother has had the same experience in Peterborough as you Gareth. He went there to work on a six week project and was still there trying to sort it all out 2 years later.
He got another project there a couple of years later with similar results, though that time it only took him 6 months to get out of the place.
He turned down a third .

I used to change trains at Peterborough regularly and usually had time for a couple of pints in the Great Northern hotel bar just outside the station. Liz and I would drive over there from Lowestoft as it was a nice day out. Never suffered any ill effects
My worst town to visit was my old home town, North Shields, something always went wrong. Now I only visit for the funerals of old shipmates.
