I seem to remember 1975 was a nice summer
Was that the year when Ethiopia had more rainfall then the UK we had hosepipe bans, bans on car washing, plant watering etc etc, Lawns that looked like scorched earth and everyone looked like they'd just come back from holiday

1959 was the first superb summer I remember, followed by I thought 1976...or was it indeed 1975?

I did think it was 76 myself John. I'm too young to remember 59 well enough

I remember going out of the house on the 15th April 1976
and thinking..... it's too HOT for a jacket, so I took it
off and took it back into the house. Never wore a jacket
after that until about October Very hot summer

It was indeed `76 - we were running a country club with swimming pool and large grounds - very popular with the members as we had a liquor licence until 2-00am ( very rare in those days )
We then had a flood at the end of the year because all the ditches had drain covers which had become stuck and didn`t let the water run off.
Chilly here now with some sunny spells - 13 days to Cornwall..........hurrah !

1976 was the great summer true - unless you were pregnant (as I was) or eaten alive by ladybirds (ditto).

But 1975 was also a lovely summer. Not the non stop heatwave of 1976 but just a lovely warm sunny summer. Even in North Wales we managed two weeks of rain free holiday that year, and September 1st was a glorious day (my wedding day so I remember it well :wink.

Today is even colder and nastier than yesterday. I am off out in a bit in search of wood for the fire.

Hmmm - I have memories of a very hot summer in either 1960 or '61 - and I'm inclining to '61 because of where I was working at the time.

I was introduce to the joys of Iced Coffee

1964 I was married and I distinctly remember the heels of my gold shoes sinking into the tarmac while standing outside the Church for some pictures

I recall really hot summers in 1981, 1982, and 1983 but that might have been because I was in Dubai

Looks like a good way to get attacked by a territorial swan or two to me . I bet you can't get out of it in a hurry either.

I'm pretty sure if you were in that anywhere within a hundred miles of London you would either get locked up or blown up!
