Plenty of asterisks flying around here at the moment.
My eldest son has just told me they are having to sell their boat because they don't have enough bookings to pay the mortgage on it, never mind make a living from it this year. They will almost certainly sell at a loss and be left with a hefty debt. Since they are self employed they are not entitled to benefits, and neither has qualifications in anything but sailing. Finding jobs in the current climate will be nigh on impossible. I have no idea what is going to happen to them.
I am totally heartbroken.

So sorry to hear that Gwyn - we can empathise after our restaurant experiences in the 80s - we were self employed AND had no house either !
A will to work and a cheerful approach helps somewhat and I am sure they will find something when they least expect it.
Good luck to them

As a fellow barge-owner I sympathise deeply.Plenty of asterisks flying around here at the moment.

They need to hang onto the boat if they possibly can. Perhaps dropping prices to a level where they will make a loss, but a manageable one, would be better than selling and making a bigger loss.
They should talk to the mortgage company. Interest rates are low, and the mortgagee might be prepared to accept interest-only for a couple of years.
Can they let cabins to students?
Time for creative thinking.
BTW, if they have to sell, UK is usually a better market. If they need a hand to bring it across, I'm available!
Very best wishes to them.

Ah, that at least explains the world shortage of candles at the moment!
Have a good one. I assume you'll be holding a joint birthday/jubilee party!
