I didn't know that was compulsory in France. So if the police pull you over do they use yours or theirs I've just ordered a set of breathalysers so we are legal to drive through France in August .
I have no idea what the police do about it testing, nor why they introduced this rather daft rule. Apart from as a way of getting fines out of unsuspecting tourists that is.
You can buy them at petrol stations and the like in France, but rather than risk a gendarme sitting just over the Belgian border I thought I'd order some to be on the safe side.

The GB Plate is required as a target for the police, this was utilised to great effect in Belgium some time ago where British holiday makers, only on the return journey to the ferry, were stopped and instantly fined for the least infingement, imagined or otherwise and of course if they didn't have sufficient funds immediately available, and at the end of the holiday who has, it cost a whole lot more because of vehicle impoundment etc..
With reference to carrying first aid kits so as to assist at scene, some of the people I was on first aid courses with would be the last persons on Earth I'd wish to administer first aid to me.
PS: I have no affiliation with the French or Belgian Tourist Industry.

If you have EU plates you don't need a GB sticker - it's already on the plate. But of course most Brits would rather face a fine abroad for not having a GB sticker (and you can get a fine for it!) than have something designed by the EU to make life easier.
Nowadays the police just take you to the nearest petrol station or shop so you can pay there with your debit or credit card. Vehicles are only impounded for massive fines such as speeding over a certain amount.
Next year of course we will probably all need a toll sticker to visit Belgium.
Ah well, I probably won't be able to afford the petrol by then anyway so it won't affect me.
Another glorious day, 29C again. Last week we were still in coats and now this.

I find he idea of GB, NL, CH etc etc plates rather daft. Lets face it, the style of number plate is sufficient to identify the country so why an extra bit of legislation.
I assume that your car registration (Gwyn) is unique, so the likelihood of someone (a foreigner) appearing in Holland with the same plate is zero. And of course the same applies here and everywhere else.
regards
Bernard
ps. What does fuel cost over there, its just come down in the UK (there's a surprise)

Where is your source from? There are 5 weekends in this month. This happens once every 823 years so best we take advantage.
According to my calender there are only 4 weekends this month.
September has 5 full weekends (5 Saturdays & 5 Sundays) and so will Decemer.
I'm sure there are some each year, in fact March & June next year will qualify.

Trust the French to make life'interesting' for visitors. We were already aware of this daft legislation, I thought the EU was supposed to stop these regional money makers?
Rant time.
Just spent 40, yes 40 minutes driving around Bradford Royal Infirmary's car park looking for somewhere to park!
Don't get me wrong, the staff are super and service great, but the parking...
....it beggers belief that a hospital serving so many people has so little parking.
I wouldn't mind, but I was there to collect the boss after her latest adventure (blood clot, swollen leg etc etc)and there was nowhere to park next to the door I wanted!
I ended up in an ambulance space and left a message with a porter (having a cig!) that I wouldn't be long.
Ten minutes and I was off.
Pizza Hut are delivering my supper tonight, I can't face cooking again.

Well until not so long ago Portugal had the same system of registration plate as the Netherlands. It was only the lack of strip between the letter/number combinations which gave it away. Luxembourg has similar registrations to Belgium.I find he idea of GB, NL, CH etc etc plates rather daft. The new French registrations look similar to German ones. Lots of East European ones are similar too.
Petrol (Euro95)in my home town is currently €1.72 at an unmanned station or €1.74 at a manned self serve place, which means given the miserable state of the euro right now about 1.40GBP. The most expensive in the area is €1.81. Diesel is generally 34 cents cheaper a litre.
