If I play my cards right I can apply for volountery redundancy next March.

I'd get a small lump sum, but more important, I could acccess my pension..

... at 55!!!

I may still carry on working as is though.
Cheers, HG

With you Barrie and Stan - if you can do it - do it - I certainly never expected to be diagnosed with Cancer or have the colostomy - I value every day now more than ever and I really haven`t had to cut my lifestyle down as we are probably better off retired than when we were working !!!!

Go for it

You can always get a part-time job or turn a hobby into cash...........I believe photography is quite good

Only another 40 years to go then! Never mind, the K-3 will be out by then.
Flattery will get you everywhere

If we'd stayed in the UK he would have retired at 60 (at the latest) on a very nice civil service pension .

Most people here are retired by 60 or so after. Because of his job we have to have a private pension plan and need to get as much dosh as possible into it. The way things a going the pot will be pretty worthless this time next year anyway .
He should have retired in March, now it will be the end of April. He did think about staying on longer but with the downturn they will push him out. Won't sack him now - it would cost them a small fortune.

Is there not a compulsory retirement age in the Netherlands now?

At the moment you get state pension at 65. Most people also stop then (if they haven't already stopped), but if they and their employer agree then they can work on, though usually with a new contract so sacking them is easier.

Our European HQ was in Holland and we lost two MD's that did not want to retire, but had to.

I've just received my Lexar 400x Pro 8GB SDHC courtesy of ePhotozine. Apparently I was selected at random as a new member. Probably one of quite a few but nevertheless I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth

They sent me a Lexus RX 450 by mistake. Having a hell of a job reversing it into the camera.

A few years ago at the Royal Norfolk Show I sat in a display Lexus just to try it for size. It fit perfectly, unfortunately is was exactly £67,000 43p more than I could afford

That's funny Stan, when I was looking for a new car the Freelander was a mere £15,000 more than I could afford.

So I bought a FIAT that was £6,000 less than I could afford!!

It's been dodgy on the fill for a week or two now, all it neede was a washer, not the 99p one, oh no.

Not even the £1.99 one, but the £2.99 one!

Still...
