I must admit to enjoying the odd "straight" gin when I am in the mood - it certainly has character and whilst not as satisfying as Scotch or Brandy it is an interesting tipple. Also a dash or two of Angostura bitters will help the flavouring...............

I only drink gin straight. Keep it in the fridge or if you can, the freezer.
Pour into a small glass and either sip or down it. No ice, no tonic, no lemon.

Here's a new fact for you...
Gin hangovers sneak up on you and ruin your day...
Felt fine when I left for work... 2.5 hours to go and feel rough as proverbials...

The lower-decks had their tots of rum, of course, until Admiral Lord Hill-Norton shut down the grog issue in 1970. Too late to affect me, by then...

Odd really - my dad was Flt.Ltnt.RAF Dental Corps and he loved his pink gin - along with other stuff !!
I picked it up along the way with most other habits - never got into dark rum though ( although Morgan`s Spiced is a bit tasty )
Nice French Claret tonight with some duck methinks !
Cheers

I had such an excess of grog, from 'sippers' around the mess on the day I was demobbed, that I developed a dislike of rum that lasted for many years. The hangover was awful.
Thankfully, I got over it, and now there is normally a bottle of Lambs Navy Rum on the kitchen counter, along with the gin.
Cheers.

G&T before dinner, then a pig-out on pizza followed by Ben & Jerry's. Very naughty, but very nice. Couldn't do it every day/week/month though.
Very warm today (22C) but grey and heavy showers. Thunder promised for later . I hope a lousy spring means a good summer.

It's possible to drink tonic without gin Ken. When we go out for an evening as automatic designated driver I drink tonic, and imagine the gin.
I'm amazed she has any teeth left after drinking those quantities though.
There is actually very little quinine in tonic water, bitter lemon and Irn Bru. The amount is limited by law.
Did you know that tonic water fluoresces under ultra violet light? That's the quinine doing that.
I had no idea it was in Irn Bru, I wonder what Gin and Irn Bru tastes like, I might try that at the weekend and report back.
