Well - I'll freely admit we have some blue skies and sun today - hope it lasts and that folk get their roofs made watertight during this fine spell.
I understand that Power engineers are starting to come over from Ireland to help repairs. Scotland still has folk without power since the gales

Lucky you TT - it is still blowing a north-westerly gale here and when it rains it rains! Areas are on flood watch - they can't pump the water out fast enough, and a westerly/north-westerly gale makes it impossible to pump water into the sea, so they are planning to flood a couple of polders, and are on a constant dike watch.
My daughter-in-law can't use their front door - she can open it but not close it again against the wind.
Our woods are full of fallen trees and branches, and ankle deep mud. Makes for exciting, and exhausting, dog walking.
It is supposed to be drier, and less windy tomorrow.

Just back from the gym, had to change into low gear to peddle my bike downhill . Sun is blazing through the front windows for the moment but still plenty cloud about. Off to a garden centre later, if it hasn't been blown away
I'm definitely pleased my seafaring days are over, except for a couple of ferry crossings later this year.
Over the last few years the gales at sea seemed a lot stronger and lasted a lot longer too.

Clear skies in Edinburgh.
The dog is very much alive. She didn't have the heart to put him down, and he has perked up a little, but he can hardly stand and sometimes has to be carried. Next week the house will be empty and I'd rather he had a peaceful death with people around him than dying alone and in pain because he's collapsed.
It never goes away. I lost Dougal, my favourite cat nearly thirty years ago and still cannot think about him without crying.
There was an excellent article a couple of years ago: link

Dry now, I've spent all day in transition from bl**dt soaked to wet to damp, something to do with rain motorcycle and work.
G&T time I think.

Still raining here. The wind here is less, down to 6 on the Beaufort scale but up by my son it is back up to gale force 9 again .

We were held up for an hour today when they had to close the A1M at Boroughbridge to recover a lorry that had been blown over.

That's what it's all about!
Why am I suddenly getting adverts for "Mature Dating" rather than "20 year old Russians"?

I could have done without the vet sending a 'With Sympathy' card after putting down our cats.
All we got from the vet was the death certificate - needed for the insurance and local council to stop the dog tax, but at least they didn't charge me for that!
Anyone else getting seriously fed up with the constant wind and rain? I could almost welcome some good winter weather right now. According to a local almanac, which is 70% accurate in it's weather forecasts (better than the Dutch met office) we are due a cold February - cold enough to skate, and a glorious long hot summer. Let's hope they are right on both counts.
