Stefan, most people do not get May 4th off - in fact the whole thing starts after most people are home, and only ambtenaren get 5 May off every year. It used to be 5 May was a day off every 5 years, but that it no longer the case - it is up to the company whether they give it or not. Of course most don't.

Same with Sinterklaas - it is not a free day, nor is December 15th (never even heard of that one:shock and nor is Good Friday.

I can tell you don't work for a living .

7 days are maximum total of free days people get, and then only if they are not in the weekend.

Well the weather is dry here so I gave the Weber a dry run. Seems very stable heatwise so looking forward to the real thing tomorrow.

Don't mention lawnmowers. I cut our lawn for the first time this year and rendered a couple of tribes of pygmies homeless. Alien was not happy and has been playing hell with me all week.

Nice link Stefan.

Now all I've got to do is learn Dutch to understand it!

I'll do that when I finish my 'Swedish in 3 months' book, bought 25 years ago and still waiting attention!
Cheers, HG

Stefan I think you are confusing holidays with public holidays. Even Wikipedia is not up to date on the rules concerning 5 May.
The UK has the Queens official birthday and Commonwealth day as holidays, but not as bank, or public holidays, no one would have those as days off. No, not true, civil servants get a day for the Queens birthday, but never on either her actual or official birthday.

I think the Dutch could do with another holiday later in the year, September time. All these days off in April May and then nothing.

Still raining here. Glad I didn't go to Utrecht this evening.

Now I'm off to bed so I am awake enough to see HM in Wemeldinge tomorrow - my son is doing the sound .

Do your best HG, it's a wonderful language and knowing some Swedish would even help a tiny bit.

I had a Dutch co-worker when I worked in Maastricht who taught me some Dutch - but not fit for publication - even here!!!

When I questioned his speed of 65 kph in a 50 limit he just said that in Holland these are minimum speed limits...
