Stefan,

The Australian sheep dog is a very good dog. I can't fault your choice. I've had one for twelve years. Unfortunately, it passed away last summer. Here is a http://www.kinoakaussie.com/index.php?pr=UPCOMING_LITTERS few pictures of it's successor.

They look lovely Yves and I'm sorry for your lost, it's hard to lose a dog.
I'm however really in love with the Saarloos so it would take a lot to take my mind from that.

Lovely dogs Saarlooswolfhonden, but difficult too, and not for the inexperienced owner.

I hope you like lots of exercise and a prepared to put in the hours training one Stefan.

I'll stick to my Stabij(na) and my Garafiano.

I know Gwyn I didn't pick them just for the looks.
They are a very loyal breed and they really become part of the family so there is no way you can leave them behind while you go a weekend away, they need to go with you then.
And they aren't hard to train, they just don't listen at all

And those are lovely dogs Gwyn, aren't they active also?

Intrigued by Polchraine's big scottish cock - the picture won't download on my phone but i'll be sure to pop back later to check it out.

We have cats Stefan, one large ginger one that only ever eats and sleeps, the other is a tabby that seems to have slightly more brains.

I may get a dog when I retire, if I ever get there!
Cheers, HG

Garafianos are goat herders (hoeders really but I can't translate that :wink and are very active. They are also loyal, and friendly and brave and stubborn, but like the Saarloos with a firm hand they train well. Ours has bananas in his ears on occasion and fails to hear commands - that is the stubborn side.
A threatened breed, from the Garafia district of La Palma.

I'm sure you know all about Stabijs anyway. Ours is a stabijna - pedigree father, non-pedigree mother and I suspect mother was a bit of a tart and ours has a different dad . She is very much a one woman dog, and very loyal. Incredibly easy to train - until she goes on a mole or mouse hunt when she is as deaf as a post.

I hope you get your Saarloos one day - but do it after America not before - the long flights (not to mention the expense!) would not be good for a dog with the Saarloos character. Way too traumatic.

Tsk Gwyn - bananas in his ears - NONSENSE he just has selective deafness

I bet if you mentioned the word food he would come running

I believe men are a little inclined towards this selective deafness too

yeah - I'm back from France after a very hectic trip with some very low points . I'm tired ++ must be getting too old for all this
let the education continue

A big Scottish cock ...

That is indeed a rather large cock.
On another note, my beloved border collie/labrador cross Sally (see avatar) is a lovely dog indeed. Her interests include sleeping and eating, and she's full of arthritis at 12 years of age, but she's a much loved member of the family. Never had Gin in her life, but has been partial to the odd beer.

HG I'm currently living at my grandparents place and they have two cats, one looks like your ginger one and the other is a bit more active, it even fetch

@Gwyn, It looks like you have two amazing dogs that keep you busy
It might be I will get stuck in America so I would need to find a breeder there.
The one who took those pictures I linked to on the previous page, that's the husband of the daughter of mister Saarloos so I'm sure they could help me most likely.

There are rules about catching wild salmon and which one you can keep or have to return. In general all hen fish are returned at certain times, but the general rule is 1st 3rd 5th &c returned and 2nd 4th 6th &c kept.

I, or friends, will eat whatever I catch or shoot - provided it is edible.

Salmon, Sea Trout, Brown Trout, Pheasant, Grouse, Snipe, Woodcock, Wood Pigeon ... are eaten

Feral (town pigeon) are not eaten - disease and pollution but they are normally pests.

Rats - if you want to cook some, I'll mail them across.

Squirrel - also pests/vermin and only occasionally eaten.

That reminds me of a scam a few years back...

... local lads were catching feral pigeons(flying rats?), killing, plucking and preparing them...

...then selling them to London resteraunts as wood pigeons...

I don't visit London, but the local press had a field day saying the lads were risking poisoning people.

The attitude here oop norf was 'so what?'
