My husband has, in the course of his career, travelled the world, and been to a great many countries I now will never get to see.

The only country I have been to that he has never been to is Norway.

Yesterday he tells me he is going to - yes you guessed it - Norway this month on business.

Today he tells me the hotel he is booked into in Stavanger is on the waterfront where the Tall Ships will be, right at the same time as he is there. . I swear he does it on purpose.

If I could find a place for the dog I'd go. He always times these trips for peak season

Meanwhile I have done the unthinkable.
I have turned my central heating on .

OOOOOH good luck Gareth and Mrs Gareth

The redheaded fridge hoover is well on his way back to London - possibly will be about 15 mins late

However I've just sent a message to his Mum as follows

Quote:
When boy arrives you may tell him he will retain all his fingers and toes

Laptop is now updated and swept and is all squeaky clean
Any bets that she's going to ask about the fingers and toes thing ?

2 to 1 on with that one TT.

Keep us informed Gareth.

As for here, the boss has just spilt wine on the new sofa cover..

..on the plus side it's white wine and she made the cover,

the down side is a waste of good wine!

Seems he's now home and eating his dinner and his mother's moaning that he doesn't seem to understand that some folk need their beds [ she's up at 5 am every day ]

Wait till she asks about the fingers and toes message.

Talking of wine - the boy seems to have a palate - was able to make sensible comments about the wine he drank

If we ever get independence the border should be moved south a wee bit (from The Wash to the Mersey).
Funny that - I would have thought that with only 4 million odd ( sic ) souls the whole population could be moved to the Shetlands,Faeroes and other outlying islands and the rest joined to Cumbria as a massive conservation area and National Park for the use of we scousers..............

Tony
Conservation area! As far as I can tell the whole of Scotland is being turned into a windfarm and water collection area for London and the Home Counties!

I reckon we should charge for the passage of said comodities through the northern counties, thus re-distributing the wealth amongst the worthy.

You may have noticed I don't have a lot of time for them 'darn sarf'

It seems to be happening here too. In the late 19th/early 20th century great swathes of Wales were being flooded for English water supplies. In the late 20th/early 21st great swathes of Wales are having windfarms built on them...

I wouldn't mind so much if the things were reliable and generated a decent amount of power, but it sounds as if we'd be better off having everyone re-roof their house with solar cells and put a big pile of batteries in the basement (with a connection to a much more lightly-loaded grid to cover any shortfall). Modern photovoltaics can generate power even on cloudy days - they just need light, not necessarily direct sun.

the trouble is they can not plan and build fast enough. I think it was in the 1960's the decided to build Kielder water and a distribution system to supply industry on Teesside. By the time it was finished there was no big industry left on Teesside
