John - good idea I'll go and do a complete re-boot
whilst that's on the go - it's coffee time
[ odd though - 3 fora in the USA - all OK , 3 fora in the UK - 2 of them are OK ]

Actually that's a good idea as well - I'll go and make a coffee.
An exchange of good ideas!

TT, you realise what John meant by reboot the router? not your PC, John - good idea I'll go and do a complete re-boot
I get a similar problem quite often, I can get onto some websites but not others, it usually happens after the router has dropped the connection, any website you were looking at or attempted to look at while the connection was down plays hard to get even though the connection has re-established, dont ask me what it is or whats causing it but I do know that switching the router off (at power source) sorts it out.
Is it a Netgear Router?

Hi TT - I use a Belkin router routed through a Linksys router ( Offcom survey ! ) and I usually unlug both for about 20 seconds and then reconnect if I have problems ............................

It's a Belkin Router
I've rebooted everything , shut down the MBP [ after clearing everything again ] unplugged the Router , then the Cable Modem .
Went and made coffee .
Back to machines - plugged in the Cable Modem , went away till it had settled , plugged in the Router , went and put the rubbish in the various bins .
Booted up the MBP . STILL NO PUF except through the proxy.
Switched Browser to FF - and I'm here
BUT the fact remains that I can't get here using Safari which is my normal Browser . I've got another Machead who is on Virgin in England to check and he had no problem.
So why me ?

No problems with my Virgin connection.
Sorry but all the diagnostic tools I know are Windows based.

I'm sure it's something simple - but I don't know what.
I've changed nothing on my system for aaaaaaaaaaages
My IP has not changed since the new Belkin N Router was installed in October .
OH WELL - I'll just need to use FF for PUF till I can sort this out

If it's working with FF then it sounds as if Safari is being difficult.

So far I've cleared cookies , cache , restarted and it's still the same - only accessible through the proxy.
I'm wondering if it's Virgin acting as a censor.
