A rare "I love Ebay" moment:
Pentax-M 50mm f2 with fungus, £5
Pentax MV1 with jammed selector, £5
Pentax AF160, £2
Building a fully functional camera outfit for £12 (plus a few minutes with cotton buds, vinegar, and fresh grease for the selector dial): Priceless!

Hear hear for Gritish Bass - I been with their contract for the life of the boiler - 22 years now - they even sent a "lady" engineer out on Boxing Day one year `cos Jo was on her own in the house ( me working ! ).They say as long as the parts are available - they will fix it - it`s a Baxi and built like a tank.
Good luck with the new one TT - I`ve sent Cyril with a barrel of brandy round his neck - should be there by Spring !

Oh I'm keeping warm - I'm not that daft .
If temps are below freezing tonight I'll even leave a fan heater on in my bedroom overnight .
The old convector can stay in the downstairs bathroom [ 2 external walls ] But I'll make sure I'm warm.
I certainly will consider talking out a service contract once the new boiler is in.
I'm just frightened at the dosh I've spent this year

Ah that explains the wobly sqiggle in the park this morning..I`ve sent Cyril with a barrel of brandy round his neck - should be there by Spring !
,,I think Cyril's drunk your brandy TT!
Here's hoping you get sorted soon. As for pointlessness, the last topic here rates as a 9.5 as it didn't mention cameras once.
Cheers, HG

You can tell Cyril that that little barrel of brandy was intended to help keep me warm .
He can keep his wee paws off it - or my supply of peanuts will be eaten by ME
I'm tempted by a service contract but I have to say these guys are tremendous - with me 2 hours after I called , and it's been the same on past occasions . They are also a source for when I need folk for other jobs - my roofer was recommended by them and my decorator/plasterer / sparky is subcontracted by them at times when their own men can't cope . They know I'm on my own now and they really do try and help .
We've had a bit of a thaw , thankfully, but temps are dropping again now . It ~may ~ be possible to get the Freelander out tomorrow so I'll try and stock up some salt and food if I can. I'm OK for food , but bread and milk are running out - and they aren't on the shelves in the shops either

Just borrow a few electric fan heaters TT, bugger the cost and keep warm.

@greynolds - how are the squaddies getting on in your streets ? I spotted a BIG red tractor cruising along the street at my front this morning , orange lights blinking, and as it came back realised that it had a blade on the front The street at the side is now just nasty and slushy having also been ploughed and sanded.
Unfortunately they called the US army in. They dropped a couple of neutron bombs and several tons of napalm. The streets are clear of snow. And people, trees, life in general, etc.

They're whining here as there's a half-meter and another 8" due tonight. Of course, most things work, but the streets *need* to be cleared as it's probably not going anywhere until April. So there are *huge* piles of the stuff around and there aren't trucks getting it to the snowpiles.
It's going to be a very interesting winter.

It is 4C here today and has rained. Unfortunately the ground is still frozen - so there is ice on all the untreated surfaces - which means the pavements of course. Most rods have been salted. all the bike tracks have been salted, but not the pavements. Some people have cleared their snow, others haven't, but it doesn't make much difference to the level of slippyness.
Getting around the woods this morning was interesting to say the least. it has been dodgy underfoot for days, but last nights rain means that ice skates would have been more appropriate this morning. I had my shoe spikes on which helped, but even so it was tough going.
Then I went to the supermarket. Car park is an ice rink. Slipped my way inside, and had the usual battle with trolley, other shoppers etc. And all the while playing over the Tannoy is Andy Williams "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year". Who are they trying to kid?
Now time to do battle with the woods again
Back to freezing temps on Monday.
Bah Humbug. When is spring?

I can now get the car out
we had enough thaw this morning so I got more snow out of the way - the thaw has certainly helped.
It did take about 3 hours to get my sitting room temp up to 60 Degrees and then I decided to go and stock up my food cupboards and staggered and slithered along the roads to Tesco - the plough yesterday made a huge difference but the stuff at the sides of the road where cars had been abandoned was now about 4 ins of ice .
Got my shopping and came home by taxi - can't carry 12Kg of dishwasher salt as well as everything else and found an OpenReach Van and engineer at my gate
He's sorted the cable so things are looking up.
Now - let's hope my new boiler has arrived so it can be installed and I can get some HEAT and hot water
