I'm given to understand that there is free software which will convert ebook formats into each other. I would want to grab some out-of-copyright stuff from Project Gutenberg and similar sources so the ability to add content which wasn't bought from Amazon would be handy.

You can get lots of free books from www.archive.org which you can download and tranfer via USB. See link

Am I missing something?

I like paper books, they don't need batteries, can fall off a table or chair arm without breaking and can be read anywhere.

OK, so Lord of the Rings is a bit heavy for hand baggage, but at least it hasn't to be turned off during take off!

I like paper books too, but my house is full of them and they are expensive here. They are a pain to take on holiday, taking up valuable lens space too.

I only ever read a book once. I cannot read a book a second time I'm afraid. I have shelves full of paperbacks which no one wants. I hate throwing books out, I feel so guilty about that.
I have read the library English section and a good chunk of the Dutch books I am interested in (and a fair few I wasn't interested in too).

An e-book (though probably not a Kindle), is tempting because it takes up little space, can have all your holiday reading on it, and (shock horror) your camera handbook as well in case you need to look up something while away. You can load it with guide books, maps notes you have made yourself about your trip, all sorts of useful stuff.

If there is software to convert e-book formats it might make a Kindle more attractive to me. I don't want to be tied to one supplier for my books.

It's raining hard in North Wales. No chance of going up Snowdon.

Dry here for a change. And warm sun promised for tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it.

Barrie - Jo & I went to Amwlch,Anglesey ( YNS MON )yesterday - beautiful afternoon with light breeze and scudding clouds.Only managed 300 shots between us - lol - Parys Mountain is AMAZING and the history of the area even more so - I went there back in 2000 as a rep and fell in love with it and always wanted to return.
Very grey on Wirral today with threatening rain but at least no wind - off up the road to the village for my prescription now and photoediting later.

Weather's not good here either.

Still, tonight's curry is simmering away on the stove. It just needs some mushrooms and capsicums adding this evening to finish it of, the quantities depend on whether Honesty's boyfriend is coming for his supper.

Two dogs = eight legs

Just looked at the radar picture and it looks like the rain is here for the rest of the afternoon.

Time to get the waterproofs on. Again.

Not been too bad here in Leeds, finished some shopping about 4pm and commented that it was nice enough to get the barbie going, too lazy to bother though
