No, it was a car. It clearly says he came down the hill in his Triumph.

This thread is going completely over the head of this particular Atheist now .
Now to see if my damn car will start.
It was supposed to be going to Italy tomorrow, but it refused to start for my son this morning. Now he'd rather risk a broken timing belt (on his own clapped out Polo) than a car (my not quite so clapped out Kangoo) that may not start.
The belt should have been changed at the last service, but due to our usual garage burning down and having to go to a different one it didn't happen.
I'm just hoping on mine it is just the battery and not the dynamo . It started fine when I took the dogs this morning, and again when he drove off in it, but later it was as dead as the proverbial. He jump started it and returned it to me.

Don't rely on this, but I've heard that a timing belt in regular use may well cope perfectly slightly beyond the official service intervals. One which has been sitting around for months should be changed as soon as possible however - the theory is that the rubber hardens and then cracks when moved.
I just ordered one of those fish-with-legs bumper stickers, only mine has "EVOLVE" and is carrying a spanner. Quite fitting for a modded Land Rover I feel!

I don't wish to panick anybody but I had a company car, used every day, that snapped a belt 500 miles after the recommended service interval. So that ended up as a New engine in a Peugeot 406

DONT talk to me about timing belts
I had a Ford Sierra quite a while back, I took it to a Ford dealer for a service and specifically asked them to do the "big" service, ie; the one that involved changing the timing belt as I wasn't sure of the cars previos service history, I got a call back later saying my car had a timing CHAIN and therfore didn't need it changing.
About four weeks later my car ground to a rather noisy halt, some tensioning device on the timing chain had failed, apparently this was a know fault which could happen, fortunately I had taken out an extended warranty, needless to say my car was taken to a small familly run garage for its future services.

Are you implying that there are people working in garages who are unreliable and will mislead customers? I find that hard to believe.

My car is currently at the local independent landy specialist having a dud alternator replaced. As the part is less than a year old it'll be a warranty or sale of goods claim.
However, as this is a very good garage I'm not worried about that part. They'll do everything to get a warranty replacement short of driving to the supplier mob-handed with cricket bats!

That's my sort of garage.
The one I/we use is local, not cheap but VERY good.
I'd rather support independent traders than large, in-human chains.
It's just a shame my local doesn't sell new cars!

The other problem is that the likes of ATS don't really understand Land Rovers. The suspension and steering isn't like a normal car and the alignment procedures are different. I'm also a lot pickier than farmers about the handling as I tend to throw it around a bit, so need a garage which can set it up properly after changing anything.
