Had a wonderful day out today. All the better knowing that it wasn't a Scottish holiday so the kids were stuck in school. I wish that made me feel in the slightest bit guilty, but it doesn't!

groan .
Poor thing was stuck in a cattle grid.
We were driving along a single track dike road with cattle grids. As we approached one a little head popped up. We stopped to investigate and there was a duck, up to it's middle in water, (the weekend proved to be even wetter than forecast ) and unable to get out due to the steep sides and the grid.
Anyway I manage to get my hands through and grab him and with a bit of manoeuvring got him out. He was soaked though and very skinny so I think he'd been in there for a while. I put him on the grass and he staggered off, wobbling a bit, but getting stronger. He went into a reed bed. I hope he dried out and survived. We didn't know of a bird sanctuary around where we were to take him to, nor the number of the local animal ambulance, so letting him go was the only option.
The sheep found it all fascinating - we had quite an audience .

hmmm - you seem to have had the bad weather over the weekend that wasn't in some areas of Belgium .
A good friend from London hopped over to Brussels on Friday evening by Eurostar expecting , thanks to the forecast, lousy weather. In fact he had great weather no rain on Friday evening , a wee shower while on the train to Ghent and a positive downpour and thunder etc on Sunday evening about 15 mins after the Eurostar pulled out of Bruxelles Midi . Thoroughly enjoyed his weekend he did - a fair amount of beer , and since he was staying with a Ukrainian , a good amount of Ukrainian Vodka

Sunday the rain was horizontal. Horrible weather. It's a bit better today, but still way too cold for the end of August (17C today). At least it isn't raining (yet ).
The summer promised much but let us down badly. We had lots of clear nights and wet days.
I hope to go back to where we stayed sometime when I have a camera, and the Bigma, to try and photograph those flamingos if I can. Too bizarre, seeing flamingos living on the Dutch coast.
Our anniversary tomorrow. I hope the sun shines then.

And there was me thinking the best thing to do when you caught a duck was order pancakes!

The poor thing didn't have enough meat left on him for either pancakes or orange sauce to be worthwhile.
Congrats on HG junior getting a job! Good news indeed in these tough times.

I saved a butterfly once, and a couple of hedgehogs from the garden, I've also saved a couple of goldfish after the cat had fished them out of the pond and brought them into the house, and I also recal saving a gerbil from the cats jaws after it knocked the cage over.
