Talking of radio control, the local model shop is currently attempting to set up a boating club on the lake. They've been told by various people that you're "not allowed to run model boats on there" when making inquiries about starting a club but nobody has as yet come up with a written document to this effect.
I hope they succeed (as a few scale electric boats will be quieter than the existing wildlife, and the lake is more than big enough for ducks and boats to co-exist) but it may be bad for my wallet. See, I have a few books about ferries with basic plans, and I've always fancied modelling one of the old Dover train ferries at 1:87 scale with everything functional (as in bow rudder, thrusters, etc)...

Yup, HO scale. It's a train ferry after all...
Seriously, I think it'd be a reasonable size - you don't want to build it too small as any waves will flatten it, something of those dimensions wouldn't have anything like as much trouble.
Can't help but think I'd be better off with a ready to sail tug to begin with though, then build a barge for it to work with!

Good idea DM.
While in Undercliffe Cemetery this afternoon I bumped into a lovely lady using a Pentax MES!
We passed a little time talking and taking pictures, I was using an Ensign Selfix 20, before we parted.
She's from Harrogate, so if she sees this all I can say is "Hello".

They didn't need to - most of Europe is on 4' 8.5" gauge, same as us. They did need to make special smaller ferry wagons for European traffic to the UK though, as our loading gauge (how high and wide stock can be) is smaller. Occasionally standard Euro wagons would turn up on the ferry and be shunted aside for immediate deportation, as they wouldn't fit under bridges here!

Thanks, I had always been under the impression they used a wider gauge in Europe.

Spain and Portugal use Iberian gauge which is 5ft 5.66ins. It means when travelling from say Perpignan to Spain you have to change trains at the border. They do have some lines which will carry both standard and Iberian gauge and are developing more.
Ireland also has a different gauge I believe.

Shh, I've bought an ME Super to do bizarre cosmetic surgery on with orange paint!
My black one still has flickering LEDs, but they seem to calm down if you leave it set to Auto (as opposed to Lock, which I use to avoid accidentally pressing the button and flattening the battery while in a bag). So long as it proves to meter accurately I can't say I'm too worried, as the shutter speed it's offering is pretty obvious due to being the steady LED.

Working on a photo for the fortynight, was thinking of using 3D instead of actually making photos for some things but it's going to be too much work to get every thing right so will resort to making photos for everything and adapt those Over 12 hours without a post. Where is everyone?
but going to bed now so sweet dreams everyone ^^

I usually take my car to a small independent garage for repair and it's annual MOT.
I have just seen on our local news website that it has burned down in the night.
I am glad to say no one was injured, but Jan, the owner and all round good guy, has lost not only his business but his home too. I am so sad for him.
I was going to call him today to make an appointment for the MOT too. Now I shall have to go somewhere else, to someone I don't trust, since there is no way he'll be back in business before next month.
I do hope he will be back in business and that this terrible fire doesn't mean the end for him.

We`re back from the family wedding festivities in Winsford Cheshire - weather behaved itself and all went well - only managed about 320 photos so a bit of editing to do there then.
Weather holding here though the forecasts seem dire - could this be the last of summer ?
Enjoyng the bread from the new breadmaker - especially toasted with peanut butter spread on !

Glad to provided some puzzlement Oggy it must be the Polish beer.
...As for model aircraft, I always wondered what happpened when they got out of transmitter range, do they just fly off into the sunset? if so it sounds like an expensive hobby
Some are very stable and will fly for miles before finding something expensive to crash into.
Others are less stable and will immediately fall out of the sky and hit something expensive.
It shouldn't happen though as radio range is greater than visual range.
