Another pointless thread

Nothing pointless happening for 3 months?? Come on folks, your lives have become too purposeful .

There were lots of small apples on the young apple trees this year. Too small to sink your teeth into but didn't want to waste them. Then I found some ancient apple and cinnamon hot cross buns lurking in the back of the freezer. So... peel, core and chop the apples then simmer in a saucepan with a drop of water and brown sugar. Meanwhile, toast half a hot cross bun. Put the warm half-bun flat side up on a plate, cooked apples on the bun, then a dollop of salted caramel ice cream on top. Mmmmmm.....!!!!!!

Sounds lovely - I used the "Apple Opportunity" to bake a few Dorset Apple cakes - never occurred to me to freeze the apples

We finally cut down the two in our garden, they were over 40 years old and didn't fruit, indeed one was dead anyway.
Shame, as now there's no height as such other than the shed and bar behind it..

.. and talking about the bar, Saltaire Brewery has been taken over and stopped doing my fav beer,,
,,, not a problem as Northern Monk do a nice one called Faith.

Perhaps you need faith? I wonder if it is anything like Newcastle Brown? .....
which is brewed in Luton - it says so on the bottle!

A rumtopf has been festering in a dim corner since summer. It's getting tempting...

Northern Monk are a Leeds brewery, and the beers are tempting at the best of times..

... unlike Tetleys.

The original firm was a Leeds brewery, but was swallowed up by a multi-national and the brewery closed!

Their 'Yorkshire bitter' is now brewed in Stoke AFAK!

As an aside, Black Sheep Brewery in Masham is in trouble, anybody fancy taking it over?

I thought it was just my tastebuds getting older but I find quite a few "classic" beers just don't taste as good as they used to, but at least it have given me a new challenge - to find the current crop of best beers.

Current favourites are Sumo by Mad Squirrel, Huckaback by Salt Beer Factory and probably top of my list is Steady Rolling Man by Deya Brewing Company - I'm not a big fan of the current trend of Double IPA's, the strength and bitterness is too much for me, I like a full flavoured and "rounded" pint.

Salt Beer Factory are only a couple of miles from me.

I appear to be drinking a lot of Abbot Ale (Greene King) of late - at least that's what the contents of the recycling bin tell me - after a while I don't remember much about it.

Beer in bottles from Tesco a couple of days ago, no cardboard. And cans of Irn Bru .

Final trip to the market for 2025 this morning. Not so much for the shopping, but the dog must meet his fan club for the last time this year.
