City Fibre has installed a fibre network all around Doncaster, causing chaos digging up roads and pavements. When I looked into it you were restricted to using only a few providers via their network and as I was happy with Sky broadband didn't want to change provider. However when I contacted Sky they said I could have fibre via Open Reach.
When Open Reach came to connect me I asked did they use the City Fibre network? No was the reply we have our own fibre running through the existing BT telephone trunking but we can't directly market it's existence in Doncaster only via signs on our vans. Despite City Fibre persistently posting leaflets to me about joining their network.
So I have 2 fibre networks running outside my house, one that caused chaos to install and one that I didn't even know had been installed. Whatever happened to a single nationwide telecoms network.
I will say that I am very happy now I am using Sky fibre via Open Reach, speeds are stable and my telephone calls are so clear. What would be annoying though is if I want to use a City Fibre provider they would have to run another cable into my house.

Latest on my fibre chaos story: I contacted my Town Councillors, they raised it at a Council meeting, other councillors joined in with tales of woe from their wards, the Town Council is taking it up with the County Council officer who placed the contract for fibre installation. Now waiting to see whether local democratic institutions can have any impact on what non-democratic businesses get up to in public places.

I was in Ripon yesterday, currently staying with daughter and family in Harrogate. Free entry to the cathedral but had to pay £3 for a photography pass because of the DSLR hanging round my neck while people with phones were snapping away without a pass. No sense in it at all - particularly as I paid for the pass with the note I was going to put in the donations box and just put the change in the box instead .My mother lives in Ripon...

OK, away from, but linked to broadband etc..
...why has the latest Pentax User news email got test reports that are over a year old on it?
And is anybody checking the feed back?
Thinking that one reeview would help sort out the next lens I found I already had it, for several years!!
And in the feed back were dodgy posts!
The link is here for those interested.

'Cos we're in the age of vintage, retro, recycling and upcycling. Re-use an old test report and save the planet ....why has the latest Pentax User news email got test reports that are over a year old on it?
And on the subject of re-use, isn't all that trendy AI stuff just a matter of getting a computer to re-use what's already on the internet rather than bothering to do the thinking, looking up and writing yourself? A bit like getting a decorator in to do your house because you can't be bothered then finding that you've got to do a lot of checking and telling them what to do because they learned all they know by watching YouTube videos and don't have any real experience? Or am I just being cynical?

TBH, I'm with HG on the subject of the Pentax User news emails, and thus I hardly ever read them!

well I'm confused, 5 fish have disappeared from my pond..
There's a mesh cover over it which had a small slot, designed to stop cats geting in, but something seems to have had my fish for a late night snack!
The guard is undamaged so what ever it was has got around it, into the watrer and back out again.
Sod!

Apparently she'll be able to sign up to one of a selection of providers when it all goes live.
that'll be a godsend for me as her current provider is, shall we say, awkward to contact and slow, oh so very slow, it does use the copper telephone line that hasn't been upgraded in the 30 odd years she's lived there.
On the bright side it's stopped raining here
