Another pointless thread

Hair cut?? .... Sod that! I haven't been near a barbers shop since it all began and I now won't. It's turned out lovely and thick and wavy, down to my collar now and progressing nicely. Silver grey as befits my advancing years. All sorts of possibilities open up - pink rinses, soft perms. I could even turn it dayglo green!

Haha! I did go a while without having one but my hair grows thick, outwards and completely straight, so it wasn’t the best look! The barbers I frequent have gone way OTT with their Covid policy so I’m comfortable going there.

Ps, with risk of breaching the ‘no photo talk’ aspect of this thread, I’m sure everyone would want to see a picture of your silver locks!

Before and after a pink rinse...

It seems strange that after 40 odd years of being told to remove my crash helmet in shops etc so that the cameras can see my face I now get told to 'COVER UP' my face!!!

Just confirms the worlds gone crazy.

My sister in law had a bright green rinse she did at home after lack of a hairdresser turned her blonde hair grey. Her kids said it was just as well they couldn't meet up because they wouldn't be seen dead with her.
Luckily it washed out after a few washes. She has stayed grey now but is threatening bright red for Christmas.
Haven't been to the hairdresser myself since September. She is in a different region to me (where we used to live) and in theory at least we are not supposed to travel. I just feel safer right now not going, as that area has a much higher risk than here. Not that it is great here but better than there.

Whilst the daily reality of living during a pandemic feels strange, what feels more strange is thinking back to the time when I would get on a train to go to the barbers, have a hair cut and on the way home stop off at the local supermarket. Later on meet up with friends for a meal or a pint.

I last had my hair cut in February. I've not had hair this long since the early Eighties. Perhaps it's time for me to start wearing white socks again

Does anyone else quarantine their post (especially those items that look like bills) ?
Nigel.

Getting older and grumpier. Taking longer to decide which lens to use today.

What little letter post we get mostly gets filed straight in the recycling. No we don't quarantine it, but it often spends a few hours sitting in the box outside before one of us can be bothered to go out and collect it.
Parcels are taken straight in and opened.

Had out first Christmas card today. Normally His Nibs' cousin in Greater Manchester is the first, around the end of November, but his other cousin in Canada has beaten her to it this year. I guess she hasn't been out much living where she does.

Posted our international cards last week and will do the Dutch ones tomorrow probably.
Usual photo card by me for them.

Yes, but more out of habit than serious need, local infection rate is low. Wash hands after handling unquarantined post (don't touch door knobs on the way) and you'll be OK. Bills come by e-mail. Different viruses there. I haven't found a way of washing an e-mail yet.

Parcels - depends on what they are. The golden rule for me is never open a parcel addressed to Mrs L. That would be far more dangerous than the virus for me.

If we now have, as reported, more manmade stuff than biomass, who says where it's put so the planet is not knocked out of kilter

well that's me down to my last bottle of Pastis, not any pastis, this is the best pastis, Henri Bardouin.

Without a trip or two across the channel we haven't been able to stock up

A search on tinternet says it should be available at a waitrose near us...

...any bets?

Good luck with that! Our local offie doesn't have it but a couple of the online ones do, for €20.995 upwards.
I don't drink it personally but it was interesting having a search for it.
Yes I am bored...

A fine aniseed flavoured apéritif .....

Last drank similar flavours back in 1984, Kirkuk, Iraq. Known there as Araq.

Calmed ones nerves during periods of intense cross border air activity.
Too far from a shore.

An ancient bottle of green Chartreuse lurks at the back of the drinks shelf. It's from my wife's family. The story is that it's the last from a crate bought at least 60 years ago. The last-but-one bottle was consumed slowly, pleasurably, and mainly by me, a long time ago over several years of visits to the in-laws.

Nobody else around here likes it. I'd share it with you alcoholically deprived folk if it were possible over the internet.... pity it isn't. Or am I the only person in the known universe who likes it?

Not at all. It's lovely stuff ! There is a yellow variety too. If it's that old and still intact it may be worth getting it valued.

We inherited a bottle of brandy from1980something, Mrs HG did a search...

....the years either side were worth £100+..

...ours, well needless to say we drank it to drown the sorrow.
Cheers, HG
