Funny thing is it's now gin o'clock after a day building a shed...

Feels like gin o'clock here now after another day of struggling to fit an Ikea kitchen. Three units, but as a peninsula, so the short end of the unit against the wall. One and a half days in relations are strained. Seemed like a good idea at the time ...

Jag älskar IKEA

Their food is great, fleece throws comfy and light bulbs good value.

More gin anybody?

We used to go for lunch at our local Ikea on a Wednesday, free coffee, two meals and a cinnamon bun each for a grand total of €7. For the two of us. Didn't need an evening meal after that!. Now our nearest Ikea is an hour away, which requires more planning, and deciding whether the cost of fuel is worth it.

Agree on the lightbulbs too.

When we ordered the kitchen stuff we got free coffee and cake, and free lunch vouchers worth €8 each. We struggled to spend it all but we managed it. I think installing an Ikea kitchen wouldn't be too bad if it were a normal kitchen, but this peninsula is a so-and-so to get right.

Ikea food - Swedish "meatballs" (with SFA meat - or at least the last time I made the mistake of sampling them a few years ago!) - Yuck!!
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

@Gywn
Building your kitchen from "standard units" is hard work (I've done that 4 times, with 2 of them in the current 40yrs-owned, but nearly 100 yrs "non-metric" old house where the kitchen is a totally weird shape - 4 walls but only 2 of them parallel with each other and you would have to "see it to believe it" !). Just try to "soldier-on" and "make it all fit"

Our current kitchen is a bespoke custom one, courtesy of a good friend who managed a supplier.

It fit well,even though it metric in an imperial house with no square corners.

Full wall units give ample room for all that booze...

....er...

.... kitchen stuff you didn't know you needed

@Hardgravity
Never could afford a bespoke custom kitchen, but I "made it fit" - and the results are quite nice and "very acceptable"

Thought I would share this- couldn’t be bothered to make a special trip to usual barber so called in at one of the many new places popping up. Trouble was the guy couldn’t understand English so before I knew half the side of my head was shaved away! Best not to upset him so let him finish. Tonight her indoors tactfully said wouldn’t it be an idea to let my hair grow long - a bit b****y late for that says I!

Ok here’s another from the mistress of tact: why (to me) is there a photo on the study wall of some old bloke with a parrot? The ‘old bloke’ is Matisse in his apartment holding a dove, photographed by Henri Cartier-Bresson. The significance is the hinted reference to Matisse’s famous peace image of a dove after the war. Just a postcard, not an original print unfortunately.

IKEA batteries are excellent and very cheap. They used to be made by Varta. I'm not sure if they still are.

I'd forgotten the batteries, there's still some old yellow ones in the kitchen clock!

Recently I've been grating fresh ginger root into a glass before adding the ice, G'n'T. Nice refreshing drink, even if a little chewy...
