Our binmen are coming tomorrow instead of today, due to the Monday bank holiday. Thank god, as I completely forgot to put the bins out this morning!

Well our refuse disposal technicians changed their day from Weds to Thur. The bank holidays have no effect on collection day...

We've just moved over to a new system where you have to keep your food leftovers for up to two weeks before they collect them. On alternate weeks they collect glass (but only some kinds of glass), plastic (but only some kinds of plastic), cardboard (but only some kinds of cardboard) and tins that you have washed, de-labelled and crushed. Taking the plastic windows out of envelopes is proving to be a challenge. I'm still trying to get my head around the instruction manual and waiting for delivery of a brown bin, "food box" and biodegradable food-box liners. I'm sure it's all for the best.

Only 3 bins here, normal, organic and plastic, on several points there are "public" glass bins.

In my place, they pick up recyclables (plastic, metal, paper and glass) every second Tuesday, organic matters on Wednesday and trash on Thursday. So you spend most of your time trying to figure out what they are picking up on a given day.

Ours are great

All recycling is collected kerbside every week, along with the standard black bags. People are given as many recycling bags as they want but there are no wheelie bins and none of this nonsense about only collecting every other week. Paper, plastic and metal are collected, there are bins in town for glass and garden waste. As a result, recycling figures for Powys are excellent.

We have grey every fortnight - paper ( not shredded ! ),card, glass, plastic bottles, tins.
Every other fortnight we have our green bin - household rubbish and every fortnight Tuesday we have our garden waste - not kitchen stuff !

Pretty good really - and they do work Bank Hols too.
