Sorry to drop in unannounced but I couldn't help but comment on this.So we have trams in Edinburgh.

The trams in Manchester have been useful. They did cost 'illions of pounds but that's the beauty of dropping the gold standard. We just print as much as we need. What could possibly go wrong?

...after several years disruption installing the damn thing in one of the busiest roads they could find, and despite being told it wouldn't work by a German city that installed and then removed one, we now have a means to move buses into position to cause a traffic jam faster than ever.
Who said it was a waste of money....

Heartless ! ! ! Whoever it was that deleted AuraTodd's thread with a plea for help and advice, you should be ashamed of yourself.
She clearly has few friends from whom she can draw comfort, but she counts us among them.
I hope you receive the same treatment as and when you ask anyone for help.
Do you have any idea the trauma you could be putting her through now? I doubt it.
She may not even have had time to read the sensible advice in the replies. You could.should have left it a bit longer at least.
Whoever you are, I'm disgusted and this might just be the straw that I need.

There was a guided busway which worked well. They removed it so the tram could run there. Trams? What you really need is a guided busway like the one in Cambridge. Also cost several squillion and buses have to join the rest of the traffic in Cambridge itself. Pure genius...
And it goes from the city to the airport. Just like the airport bus. It just costs more.
I'm one of the few people who thought tams were a good idea. Which they are. It's just a shame it was totally mismanaged. And most of it was never built. And it drove shops out of business. And added 45 minutes to bus journeys because of the streets being clogged. And turned one of the worlds most iconic and beautiful cities into a building site.
But apart from that.....

After the blitz on Sheffield they had no trams, so Bradford, a much smaller city where most people lived only a short walk from their work, sent its trams as replacements.
After the war Bradford replaced it's trams with trolley buses, and much missed they are too. The last one ran in the 70s.
Every so often some smart a*** suggests trolleys as a possibility.
I need wine now!
All this thinking hurts!!!

Strasbourg brought back it's trams. Amsterdam never lost them.
Our town had a tram once - but it was converted into a railway. Wantage, where I used to live had a massive tramway - 2 miles long, to get from the town centre to the railway. It lasted 50 years for passengers, and 70 for goods traffic.
On a slightly photographic note, I went to Ikea and invested in some Ribba photos shelves and frames and have spent a few hours printing and framing photos to stand on said photo shelves. Really pleased with the results.

I didn't know palm trees blossomed !
Was sitting out in my host's garden here in Dublin , enjoying the sun , and asked him what flower was giving off that perfume .
Stunned when he pointed to the trees and said - "Them" - seems they only flower on alternate years - and have this year
