I've found a really cool method for fixing noisy fans on laptops. The fan on mine was making very loud screeching noises when the processor was working hard, ie while editing images. I took the fan out and carried it around in my suitcase for a few weeks while I tried to find a new one. I couldn't find one, so put the old one back, and it works perfectly now.

Just repaired my sister's laptop, a 4yr old Toshiba Satellite L35. On switching on it would show the initial Toshiba screen but not respond to the F2 or F12 key presses but would then go to a blank screen with a static cursor at top left. This laptop had only ever been run from the mains.
Switched laptop off. Removed power lead. Removed the battery. Plugged into the mains booted up. Problem solved. A new battery will be about £15 from Amazon but for the amount of time the laptop is used is hardly worth buying.

Off to buy some whisky, it's Burns Night and a great night with friends. Probably get some Glenmorangie and cut it with the stuff I make in the garage.
