Same here. I will probably maintain my XP machine as long as I possibly can; the software (also including Autocad 2007) I have isn't compatible with Win7 let alone 8! And I like XP. Luckily a lot of people still do, and you can still buy a PC with it installed.

Got a spare computer up in the loft, can't remember what OS is installed, probably linux as it's only got 120gb (2 x 60gb) storage. XP is easy to "activate" so as long as you have a copy on disc. I would have thought it could be installed on another machine if your old one dies.

Run a virtual XP PC on Windows 7 or 8, and it's free (but you will need an XP install disk and serial number.)
I use it and have a portal folder that both Win 7 and XP can see so if I wish to use an older non compatible program on an image I can place it there, fire up XP and carry on living in the past! I use it for running PhotoImpact which isn't Win 7 compatible.

You don't need a virtual machine to to run XP, it installs fine on modern machines

Microsoft recently tried to do exactly the same thing with games and their new xbox and with the same attitude "get over it" as Addobe.[

They have now done a complete U-turn and said they are listening to their customers...yea people were voting with their wallet and that was the only reason for a change of heart. Of course Adobe do not have a competitor like Play Station to contend with but who knows.

Monthly rental issue aside, I use LR4 and elements 10 has remained unused for about 3 months now
Would I see any benefits / added features in moving to Photoshop CC?

You'd lose all the feature specific to Lightroom.

If you save the files that way then you ain't doing it the smart way, that way not even lightroom can open the files so never save them like that.How would you open photoshop files that only CC software could open if you stopped paying your "rental" and the software ceased to work.
When you save them with compatibility mode on you can simply open the files with CS6 or the now free CS2

I dread the day my XP machine bites the dust as a lot of what I have on there will not function on W8 (PS7, AutoCad2000, etc) and whilst it is (I accept) very dated it does what it says it will do and totally meets my current (and probably future) needs.
