Q macro

you have a wider depth of field. I think you might be wrong there. The depth of field is lens relevant, not sensor relevant. The DOF with a small sensor is deeper because we use shorter focal length on these cameras to get the same field of view we'd have with a larger sensor. Not true, the only t...

Pentax K-01 discontinued

Agreed David. I have heard reports (in the USA mainly) that the K-01 has a cult following which is having an affect of secondhand prices. People are realising that this pocket(biggish pocket)rocket is a superb piece of kit, hence why the prices are going upwards for secondhand models. Nothing i...

Pentax K-01 discontinued

Best place for it??? Note the Wink, I don't Hate the K-01. Wonder if I can get the AA filter ripped off? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GV5ZECGT9Dc

Pentax Q7

Should be a cracker, after all the Q is capable of great things, so the Q7 with a bigger sensor and no AA filter should be very good little thing :)

Ricoh to launch a Q7 Ltd Edition set

The bag that would really hit the spot would be one of those briefcase-style metal cases that were around when the Auto 110 was being sold. The vignetting refers to the use of the polarising filter, doesn't it?

K5 chip in a small camera

You mean like the Ricoh GR? That would seem to be the same, or a very similar, CMOS 16MP chip in a small camera with fixed lens, plus the option of a high quality accessory lens for wider angles. There's no AA filter and the performance is very similar to the K-5 IIs.

Q ND filter

Is it two f stops? Seemed to be with a quick test. Does it have any downside on image quality?

Q ND filter

Yes it is two and has no noticeable effect on quality, I have them switched on in sunny countries

Q and solar eclipse

Regardless of focal length of lens; I'd be sure to put the maximum of neutral density filter in the front of that lens. Cannot begin to begin to mention how many sensors I've seen over the years of people taking photographs with the sun as the subject. Could be worse though, could be a dslr

I really must stop...

OK, I’ve tried it out for a day or two (I’ll put a few of my test shots up at some point) and my initial thoughts are as follows. I quite like the Q10, but it’s a bit disappointing. There’s a lot to like about it - it feels well made and it’s quite well balanced, it produces RAW files and takes g...

Q 08 lens for the Pentax Q7 - worth the upgrade from the Q 02 ?

I've got one and from my experiences it's definitely a special lens. The IQ doesn't have the same compromises that the 02 lens does (distortion/fringing etc) and it really mimics a larger format lens extremely well. The only reason it doesn't get so much use is because the Q system doesn't get so mu...

Is my Q faulty ? Mode Dial help needed.

First thing I did was update the firmware I found the manual confusing, it says you can store up to four settings but then contradicts itself by saying only 1 setting at a time, that's why I searched online. This was the method I found: 1. set up your camera with the settings you want it to ...

Is my Q faulty ? Mode Dial help needed.

OK, I think I understand what you're doing now. First the good(-ish) news - it isn't what I was doing, so ignore what I said about all settings being retained by quick dial. Now the bad (for you) news. User 1, 2 and 3 are for camera settings for what the Q's user manual calls 'Image Finishing Tone' ...

Being a proud owner of Ricoh GR...

I ordered the GH-3 Adapter and GC-6 Jacket for my RICOH GR last thursday from Japan, I ordered them over Ebay and they just arrived this monday morning. I cannot believe how fast the shipment was, it beats some of the domestic first class post I get in the UK... I deliberated upon doing this becaus...

Being a proud owner of Ricoh GR...

I like the case and the hood, but for a camera that's supposed to be stealthy it's a bit big and would have to be taken off. Heliopan do some great lens hoods that have the same filter thread at both ends so the can be left on, I've got two plus two simialr Chinese ones for the K-5 .... see he...

Being a proud owner of Ricoh GR...

Thanks for that link, Algi. It also directed me toward a 49mm B+W UV filter, the FS-XPro kind which is better than what I have already. I think this camera is a classic before it's time...

Ricoh GR review

The MX-1 doesn't have the name on the camera either, not that the GRs ever did. As a GR1s owner I was interested in the new GR, it looks very similar (not sure about the sizes though - although they seem to b close going off the dimensions). Having a film & digital versions looking very similar (i.e...

Ricoh GR review

Ricoh have always had an understated look and the GR series of cameras don't need to prove anything in how they perform, they have always had a tried and trusted following. Even Daido Moriyama uses one... This camera is a no-nonsense image making tool, which it does admirably. I was sold a long t...

Ricoh GR First Impressions

My GR arrived Friday. First impressions are - It is very quick to use. I was 'snapping' at a number of end of term events and found it a joy to use. - The screen is superb - It is exceedingly sharp - High ISO performace is excellent. I cant see myself using the flash for anything other than f...
