Hello from Skye
I've been playing with my camera for nearly a week now and I'm very happy with it, no photos worth posting yet though. The weather is horrendous here just now and the weather proofing would well and truly be getting a test! I took some shots the other day outside and the clouds looked pretty washed ...

New Pentax K100d Super purchase
Hi Everyone, I bid on a new Pentax K100D Super camera with the standard kit lens on an internet auction site and to my surprise, managed to secure it. I wanted to ask what size protective filter I need to purchase to put on the lens kit? - there seem to be many different sizes eg. 52mm, 58mm e...

New Pentax K100d Super purchase
The filter size is marked on the front rim of lenses, usually anyway. If it's the 18-55mm then it will be 52mm. However, do you really need a filter? Far better protection will be a lens hood, with no danger of the lens beinbg damaged if the filter shatters. Filters add flare and can only reduce ...

Advice on Pentax DSLR required.
Would the stock lens allow me to do in terms of the type of pictures I can take with it? The kit lens is very, very good for what it is. Please have a look at the pics on my gallery, a high proportion of these are with the kit lens. I've compared landscapes taken with this lens with some I took wi...

Old Asahi Pentax
Would these be compatible with modern cameras (e.g. K5)? It looks like there are some filters in there too. Pentax cameras are particularly good at legacy support (provided the 'use aperture ring' option in the menus has been turned on). All PK(bayonet) lenses can be used without an adapter, older s...

Privet!
Hey, by speed I was referring to the aperture value. The 80-200 sounds interesting, I'm just gonna wait til Dannyh responds if he still has his DA 50-200 he has up for grabs. One more question: should I get a filter or not for the lens to protect it? As by reading around forums ten cheap filters...

Privet!
good point David, I just started noticing that most of them aren't. DA-L it is then, at some point. The weight of the 55-300 isn't scaring me away from it, as I'm not what anyone would call small. I think I will wait to see what will happen with the loft bundle lenses :) to see what happens at one o...

Privet!
I think the weight problem has been confused. You are saying that the DA-L 55-200 is light, but then someone has said the DA 55-300 is heavy. But I would suggest that the DA-L 55-300 isn't! I have bought the DA 55-300 and it is a little heavy to keep steady. But when the light is poor I always us...

hullo from York
Hello Spiritwalker. Welcome to the Forum and hope you find it, as I did, to be the place where you can get good tips and thoughts to help you make the most of your new camera. On UV filters I always got one for every different lens size and kept them on the lens at all times. After later learni...

Hi Spiritwalker and welcome! Regarding UV filters, from experience it depends on the lens! - The 55-300 seems to hate filters of any kind - they ruin the sharpness (even UV ones). Take the filter off and the lens is totally transformed - DA 16-45 works great with or without - it seems espe...

Another from SW London saying hi!
Welcome Peter, have K-5, K-x and K-m and also a Saab 9-3 1.9 150 TDi, the last before they fitted the particulate filter! Great car, 110,000 miles and going very strong - what a shame GM ruined the company. Great minds think alike. Regards David

Pentax X 5 DSLR
Hi, You could certainly hold a graduated square filter in front of the lens to correct blown out skies (common with small sensored bridge cameras) See how you get on first. You might be pleasantly surprised how clever the camera copes on its own :-)

Entering the big bad world of DSLR
Did you mean 52mm UV filter (for the 18-55 lens)? If so, lots on ebay - any Hoya HMC should be OK. Philip

Thanks, is there any for a 52mm please? Not sure what you mean. She needs a lens that will fit her 52mm filter...

Entering the big bad world of DSLR
UV Filters (at least the ones I use) are very cheap. I'd not buy a lens to fit a filter but rather the other way round. But to be honest, I'd not get too obsessed with weather proofing. I've used a series of conventional lenses for years with no problems. WR lenses are not guaranteed to be totall...

Back to Pentax after many years away
I've recently signed up here so firstly Hi and a happy new year to everyone. My first decent camera was a brand new black Pentax S1a bought many years ago and exposure was judged using the recommendations included with the film until I got a Weston meter - bit different from todays digital camera...
