Very interesting topic regarding APS-C & FF

Any sensor size upgrade questions didn't arise for me in the shop when choosing my camera. I admit then I didn't know about Pentax's digital range, although K5 was also on sale, and I was aware it had a higher resolution sensor but was the same in most other respects ... The K7 was the better bargai...

Very interesting topic regarding APS-C & FF

If Full frame has such a significant advantage then you would not see so many professionals adopting the Fuji X-system or even iPhones to capture images that sell iPhone issues easy to address: regardless of how many mp a sensor is, it's the size of the sensor. As for Fuji... They are doing quite...

Very interesting topic regarding APS-C & FF

A full frame sensor at a given aperture setting receives twice the light of an APS-C sensor at the same sensor. Fact. The same lens used on APS-C will send half the light that comes through it into the mount but onto the area that is not sensor. That's why the field of view is different.

Very interesting topic regarding APS-C & FF

That's impossible Jonathan. The light level remains the same. It will receive twice the light when the light is twice as bright. As for lenses, f/8 is f/8, whatever is behind the lens is irrelevant. The field of view is different because an APS-C sensor is smaller than a 35mm format FF sensor. ...

Very interesting topic regarding APS-C & FF

I'd be willing to compare most any full frame camera to any non full frame model. Any professional photographer would notice the difference both on screen (sadly even a laptop, but preferably a quality monitor), and also in printed material. Naturally such results would be unedited. But ironically ...

Very interesting topic regarding APS-C & FF

Its obvious that the technology needed for a FF Pentax, including the mount and camera features, are already developed and implemented on other models ... look at how much of the K3 came to be included in the 645Z. As the mount exists its simply a case of putting together the specs and design needed...

Very interesting topic regarding APS-C & FF

*a good photographer will take good photos with any camera. * on the whole a better (bigger sensor, more MP, etc etc) camera will take technicaly better images than an inferior one. *surely any Pentax FF would have a facility to use a lens designed for a cropped sensor as a cropped image, this wou...

To the stars

I'm about to start photographing stars. Since it gets very dark in WA with clear skies, we have area's nearby with zero light pollution. So I’ve been reading up on techniques and kit. I have just ordered an Astrotrac TT320X-AG and a PS-10 Polar scope. I know that the O-GPS1 GPS also has an a...

A question for the landscape photographers or anyone using Flters

Soft ND grads for FF, so not you since your here! Hard grads do not cause as noticeable line on APSC as they do on FF So you will find a lot of people will tell you that you can get away with them, I chickened out and bought soft ones anyway! If you do intend to use them on the wide lens buy 100...

Can we use a film camera lens (conventional) on a digital SLR where a telecentric lens is optimal (current)

I thought I would start up this topic because increasingly I am seeing dialogue on Pentax User, regarding using older conventional Film lenses on Digital Cameras. It seem a "given" in some posts that traditional older film lenses can be used on a digital DSLR without any issues, which is simply ...

Can we use a film camera lens (conventional) on a digital SLR where a telecentric lens is optimal (current)

Yep. Not at all concerning. I've recently bought a (fairly) wide angle film lens for my digital 645 and it performs just fine. Stars at extreme edges display a certain amount of chroma, but only when pixel peeping and certainly not a concern for the image as a whole, as the important bits are never...

Can we use a film camera lens (conventional) on a digital SLR where a telecentric lens is optimal (current)

Thanks Daroni, It's interesting to see the physics behind 'optimised for digital'. In practice I haven't had any noticeable fringing or similar problems e.g. with my FA24-90 which gets (or used to get, it tends now to stay on the film camera) a fair amount of use at the widest setting, as well as t...

Can we use a film camera lens (conventional) on a digital SLR where a telecentric lens is optimal (current)

Sure Gary, but I'm thinking when you say modern lenses for press work, you mean speed and accuracy, you're not really worrying about the angles that light rays hit the sensor are you?

Sure Gary, but I'm thinking when you say modern lenses for press work, you mean speed and accuracy, you're not really worrying about the angles that light rays hit the sensor are you? The majority of the latest lenses apart from vibration controls and focus speeds and coatings I think due to compute...

Can we use a film camera lens (conventional) on a digital SLR where a telecentric lens is optimal (current)

Bearing in mind the commentary above from Mr McGregor; Firstly let me underline one thing, the purpose of raising a topic on such a forum is to share / gain knowledge and experience - not to "make a fuss" as you put it Nigel. My philosophy is always respect and pay attention to the science. wh...

Can we use a film camera lens (conventional) on a digital SLR where a telecentric lens is optimal (current)

Would the limiting factor with film era prints not have been more the film itself, rather than lens design technicalities? I do accept that very high resolution and large digital sensors might be unforgiving of lower quality old glass. Clearly we all have to choose carefully. I myself have raised ma...

Can we use a film camera lens (conventional) on a digital SLR where a telecentric lens is optimal (current)

I've read some people say things like 'this or that lens was fine on a 12MP camera, but starts to show issues on a modern 24MP sensor'. I am not sure what to make of this, because 12MP is acceptable for 99% of printing purposes. If image quality issues aren't apparent on a print taken on a 12MP ...

Can we use a film camera lens (conventional) on a digital SLR where a telecentric lens is optimal (current)

Oh Nigel, I did say I would stay quiet but I felt the need to respond given your last post; the biggest issue for me would be CAs being noticable when I make large crops. I have currently just completed several hundred promotional photos for an international sporting village which will be display...

How to reduce pixel count for cropped glass.

By removing the sensor and following this closely, you will effectively end up with the cropped size required for using APS-C lenses on a FF body. The demonstration simulates pixels on a given sensor size. Best regaeds
