According to Ricoh Imaging France

:3496ace15f="johnha"]X=1/200 s; synchronizes with shutter at 1/250 s or slower (flash range drops at speeds between 1/200 and 1/250 s) I don't know how that works - I'd have thought the sensor is either fully open or it's not, but there's obviously something else going on. Looks like there's some so...

Does your camera make you smile ?

I can't help thinking that the retro styled bodies are only appealing to my self confessed natural magnetism to the old days. Nostalgia basically. Nostalgia is a powerful draw, but the truth of it is that we should be enjoying now. I'm not so sure there were any "good old days", they had their own ...

Camera on a Motorbike

As others have commented, a back pack is the best solution for the camera and lenses, but potentially the worst solution for you in the event of a spill. If I have to take my DSLR kit I normally resort to the car. If I must take it on the bike then it goes in the top box with lots of padding to abs...

Something to ponder!

I thought I understood the debates about full frame vs crop factor cameras until I started looking at the angle of view of the two lenses below and from my understanding the sigma is a full frame lens model. Anyway take a look through the specs below. Sigma 24mm -70mm F2.8 IF EX DG HSM ...

Something to ponder!

If you are using a 16mm lens with an APS-C sensor and then wanted to get the equivalent image with a full frame sensor you'd have to use a 24mm lens. Using that 24mm lens with the APS-C sensor you would only get approximately half the image, as if you had zoomed in. Field of view figures can be co...

Something to ponder!

I thought that the KEY difference is dof and perspective. To take it to the extreme, if the sensor was iso 2 million and you had no noise, then you could shoot everything with an ultra-ultra wide 5mm lense and just crop away to get the effective fov you want, but you will always get the perspective...

Something to ponder!

OK, am I thinking of sensor size then? I.e. dof for any given lens on APS-C is greater at a specific aperture than the full-frame?

Something to ponder!

OK, am I thinking of sensor size then? I.e. dof for any given lens on APS-C is greater at a specific aperture than the full-frame? That's correct.... One of the few advantages of FF is that the same shots have a shallower DOF. If you want more DOF FF becomes a disadvantage. --

Something to ponder!

I'm not quite sure what is being discussed here. If you have a photographer, foreground subject and background then: 1) Nothing moves but the photographer changes lenses and enlarges the 'cropped' wider shot to compensate. The apparent DoF may change due to the larger enlargement, the perspective...

TonyM Wrote: And that, if you read back to the beginning, was exactly the point I was bringing up. Something to ponder!

Algi, go back to the original post which is about crop sensors vs full frame. The point is if you crop a 16mm lens to give the same angle of view as a 24mm lens, as happens on a crop sensor camera, the results will give exactly the same perspective. Numerous examples posted in this thread prove this...

DNG Artifact

Hi Steve Can you clarify something; you say its happening with RAW DNG, but doesn't happen with K-r DNG. Do you mean its happening with RAW PEF - if that is so then it is probably that Picasa and Photoplus X5 aren't/ weren't totally up to speed with that file format. Basically the sensor is larger ...

DNG Artifact

Photoshop supports PEFThanks for responding guys. I haven't tried PEF because I don't use software that supports it. I am referring to DNG in both the K-r and K-5II. The K-r doesn't show these artifacts but the K-5II does. Gamka, you are right, there is a black line on the left of the image and b...

Pentax K-3: REDEMPTION

After about 10 minutes of vacuous and wandering waffle he finally says that the NR on the K-3 is too aggressive and that was what was making his K-3 images not sharp. I gave up the will to live after that, so I dunno what else he said. Not much given the video lasted another 12 minutes. I can i...

Pentax K-3: REDEMPTION

I don't recall complaints that film stock showed grain which got more obvious at higher film speeds! But then there weren't settings to control that in the camera and it affected all cameras to the same amount. I'm sure if noise is a problem on the K-3 Pentax will tweak some of the settings but the...

Pentax K-3: REDEMPTION

I'm sure if noise is a problem on the K-3 Pentax will tweak some of the settings but the issue seems to be overplayed by some who haven't actually made their own comparison test shots where settings can be changed from the default to see the effect. Relying on published default setting test shots fr...

Boxing - Pentax 16-45mm F4 or Sigma 24-70mm F2.8

As mentioned above, those conditions are a nightmare if the lights not up to it. If you really do need F2.8 then you'll be dealing with a narrow depth of field, and that's when the focus needs to be right on the money, and with moving objects, potentially in low light. All the best, and good ti...
