Pushing the limits of more basic equipment is rewarding in itself. Getting a good picture using a camera and lens that can't handle any situation with the minimum of effort requires some skill. With so much automation on tap the actual picture taking moment can be be a bit 'soulless', for want of a better phrase. I'll admit it comes in handy when there's no time to think.

Great minds and all that, The day after I played with the happy camera, I loaded up my old MX attached a 50mm loaded it up with ilford HP5 and went for a walk down an old railway line, and yes that did make me happy, only problem the roll of film is still on the side waiting to be sorted, no such problem with the happy cameraMattyH wrote:
I suppose I am thinking about going old school and back to basics.
Grab a few rolls of Ektar and an MX (or Nikon FE for that matter). The original models, not this pumped-up digital version which looks like a 1970s SLR on steroids; where the dinky little control dials are the real deal, not a chintzy pastiche.I suppose I am thinking about going old school and back to basics.

I can't help thinking that the retro styled bodies are only appealing to my self confessed natural magnetism to the old days. Nostalgia basically.

Nostalgia is a powerful draw, but the truth of it is that we should be enjoying now. I'm not so sure there were any "good old days", they had their own problems which we strived to cure.

It will be interesting to see if these nostalgic cameras appeal to the young(or indeed anyone under 40!).
Quite apart from the price of the things, I suspect not since young people take their photos with their phones and tablets.
Nostalgia for them is a three year old Blackberry or an "ancient" iPhone.
Good points. This whole thing seems ridiculous now. Where is my medium format sensor in a credit card sized body please? Lets keep move right on, you know 'Minority Report' style? It will be interesting to see if these nostalgic cameras appeal to the young(or indeed anyone under 40!).

I think thats why the Snappy shades it for me, at least you get the impression they are pushing boundaries. If you want retro and are not fussed about FF, then there are a whole bunch of Fnappy's already doing the trick, and doing it very well too.

Still haven't made my mind up yet if a happy camera is a good camera, both the sappy and nappy aren't released until the end of the month,so will decide then.
On a plus note the sappy comes with a free Billingham Hadley bag, so that would make me smile

Just as well the nappy doesn't come with a nappy bag .

My new Ricoh GR is the only camera that has made me smile and be totally happy with, compared to anything else I have owned. I have owned a Nikon EM, Olympus OM4Ti, Canon EOS 50E, EOS 5, Olympus 35RD (of which I still have and want to sell), Olympus Trip 35, Rollei 35B, Ricoh GX200, and a Pentax K20D.
I am in my element with the GR and it fulfills all what I want to achieve with it, and has the potential in other areas too. I really feel that I don't want for anything else...

Billingham Hadley sounds like a firm of accountants, or the name of one of the suites in those soulless conference centres which often feature borgs in suits sitting behind laptops on a saturday evening while everyone else is goign out and having a good time

How about feeling happy because you've shot a great picture, never mind what it was shot with?
For me it will be the one that gets me 1st Place in the Open Print (Colour and/or Mono) competition at the camera club
