Why am I holding out ?
The K5 seems such a good upgrade to my K20. I have the cash available for 1 major photographic purchase this year. Currently have a good range of lenses and a K20. The improved af and high iso quality of the K5 are what I need, but still i hesitate. Why? Everytime I get close to ordering anoth...

Why am I holding out ?
I'm with you Davex. I'll have a go with an acquaintance's "similar" camera from another well known camera manufacturer to see if the alternatives are better, and probably make do with what I have until the "next big thing" appears on the horizon. Underwhelming sensor in the K-7 and undocumente...

Why am I holding out ?
There is a simple reason you are hesitating Dave and that is because there has been poor quality control with both the K-7 & K-5, there is no arguing here. Recently (last 2 years or so) I have returned / replaced the following:- 2x K-7s (control dial faults) 1x K-5 (Sensor) 1x DA* 16-50 (ba...

Why am I holding out ?
Hey things break and go wrong. taking things to extreme planes crash, trains derail but people still use them. Pentax have addressed the sensor issues and fixed other issues in firmware updates and I am sure Pentax will continue to improve the K5 further via software updates. Sometimes you have to ...

Why am I holding out ?
Underwhelming sensor in the K-7 and undocumented features with the K-5 (at a price), hardly inspire confidence when the K10/GX10 and K20/GX20 were so good. My first GX10 had a mirror alignment problem that caused leaning pictures (apparently quite common) and was replaced by the dealer. Although not...

Why am I holding out ?
I am a newbie- I am constantly amazed at how the K5 helps me get great shots with my fists of ham. My first one had a sensor stain- it took 5 days to turn it round via Johnsons Photopia, buy it from a good retailer and you cant go wrong- it bloomin cheap now as well at less than £900.

fair price for K10d?
Hi, I too have a Pentax k10d with pentax 28-105 lens. Less than 15000 actuations, with two batteries and a charger. I am asking £ 250. Its working fine and don't have any issues. Its got a clean sensor. If interested, you can inspect the camera and buy. No guarantee as I am not a store seller. No ...

Pentax CSC Rumours
I am going to buy the new aps-c evil if it has advanced video abilities and kmount... It won't be a k-mount or else they can't make the camera smaller than what they are now so they would be unable to compete. It would be interesting to see if Pentax would go into the micro 4/3th pack... I'm thinki...

laptop mic.
My apologies if I was a little abrupt yesterday, but there are various fundamental principles involved in the task you are undertaking for which this is IMO neither the time or the place for a wide-ranging discussion. However, I’ll try to expand briefly. You already have a digital recording on y...

lens question
I have been lurking on these forum(s) (what is the plural) and this thread has really hit the spot. So my first post - be gentle with me - I still do not know whether PE is a wind up or not and I think this is part of the fun.:D I ordered a sensor cleaner from the retailer in question and the re...

Ricoh to buy Pentax
Well I think it is good news. Hoya bought Pentax for the medical and scientific sides, the photographic side was just an addition. Now we know Hoya wer'nt interested in the camera division. So it can only be good to sell it to someone who IS interested, and that is Ricoh. Now what do I want to se...

Ricoh to buy Pentax
MrCynical, try check out a GXR and play on it for a while - its actually better than you think, i used to think it were a bad idea too, I just think it hasn't been backed enough by ricoh releasing the right modules. I think they shd have went bodies, sensor units, and lenses. interchangeable sens...

Ricoh to buy Pentax
If things don’t go according to plan you have to wonder whether Ricoh will have anywhere near the same remarkable level of commitment as Hoya did, no doubt partly due to personal commitments made during the protracted takeover negotiations. Hoya's original purchase of Pentax was a hostile takeover: ...

So what are you going to do RE: Ricoh purchase of Pentax
I've seen (supposedly) informed speculations as to the near-past and -future: * that Ricoh collaborated in the Q design; * that GXR will be a transformative mirrorless platform; * that GXR mount/sensor modules will be released for (at least) K, Q, and Leica M (which could also mean Nikon/Cano...

So what are you going to do RE: Ricoh purchase of Pentax
I don't see any informed speculation whatsoever about Canikon modules or much else for that matter. The CaNikon speculation is my own, which is why I separated it within that list. But if other modules, why not those? Or at least a sensor-only module with provision for various mount adapters. Meanwh...

Possibly going to switch brands
Go for it! It has a larger sensor area than a full frame camera, and will be a fun tool for group portraiture. Make sure you get him to include the kit bag for it though ;)

Possibly going to switch brands
I strongly recommend you test this unit before you buy it. Drop pants, sit on imaging sensor area, press the green "Copy" shutter button, and replace your avatar with the new photo. If anybody here can spot the improvements then you will know you've made the right choice.:D

grrrrrr eBay numpties
Well, I've done my bit for the week. They were actually about to throw a load of kit out! Nothing hugely interesting to us apart from an SV with a dinged 55/1.8 and balky shutter (still there if anyone wants it) and a battered MES/mouldy 50 1.7 which I bought for a tenner plus my time pricing the re...
