Theorizing about future product.

lots of people in lots of places are loudly proclaiming that because Pentax, and other makers, are currently making lenses with image circles only suitable for the APS sensor that this is some kind of 'sure sign' that sensor size will not change. What seems to me to be massively overlooked is; ...

Theorizing about future product.

3) The market 'leader' is Canon and they offer 'full-frame' sensor cameras with more to follow. If other makers want to chase the leader, and at least two have publically made announcements to do so, then they have to follow. Why? The market leader in 6x7 was Pentax. In 6x6, Hasselblad. In 6x4...

Theorizing about future product.

George, I stand by what I posted,...however, if you absolutely MUST take everything completely out of context in order to make SOME kind of counter argument then here we go; ".... The technology hasn't been lost, but it has been improved upon. There is very little human input in modern ...

Hoya take over of Pentax goes ahead.

Debate is not only pointless, but damaging, in that nervous people may be put off buying Pentax. Personally, if Hoya pulls the plug I will buy a couple more K10Ds and keep them 'til they pack up, which should be many years. The gear might lose financial value, but it won't become any less capa...

Basic Technique

Naive? Or Business-smart... Many people "out there" lap this kind of thing up... Personally, I think a good microfibre cloth and a good lens cleaning session or two would "exorcise" most of the "ghostly" images in his photographs...

"Most useful and unusual photographic accessory" award

... goes to me tonight I feel. It is a bottle of "1001 mousse, carpets and upholstery", with spray nozzle. Picture the scene, if you will. A spider, hanging on a strand of web from the ceiling. 'Aha, where's the camera and extension tubes', is my instinctive reaction. I put down...

Doom and Gloom

I don't want to start a slanging match here. I just wanted to let off a little steam at some of the more "generalised" forums out there with the doom and gloom merchants that cannot help but continue to kick Pentax at every opportunity, yet they continue to use their kit. Which forums ar...

Doom and Gloom

ChrisA wrote that there's no proper mirror up facility, given that they've built the facility into both the hardware and the firmware for sensor cleaning. Is that not what the 2sec timer is for ?

ChrisA wrote that there's no proper mirror up facility, given that they've built the facility into both the hardware and the firmware for sensor cleaning. Is that not what the 2sec timer is for ? Well sure. But there is no facility to lock the mirror up, and take a picture 'now'. The 2s timer, ...

had the k10 for a month - need help with accessories for pla

1. Triopd most definately for pin sharp photo's, look at the Manfrotto range as you will want something strong and sturdy (e-bay). The built in self timer will do the job. You can get a decent cable release again from e-bay. 2. Raw loads of possiblities for enhancements. Get a spare card (amazon 2...

had the k10 for a month - need help with accessories for pla

1. Tripod - definitely useful to have one although I don't personally use one all that often. A cable release is useful if you do get a tripod but they can be picked up cheap from Ebay. 2. Raw or Jpeg - I use both, raw when lighting conditions are difficult or I want the very best quality, jpeg w...

had the k10 for a month - need help with accessories for pla

Thank you all very much for your help and thank you for the comments about my picture. I would respond to all the comments personally but you all kind of echo the same advice and thus I shall reply to all. I will look for a decent filter but I will prioritise on memory cards. I already have a spa...

If I ruled the (Pentax) world...

What are the odds that most replies will be for a full size sensor!  Me for one, as that answers all the other points (ok then whines) I'd make about affordable wide angle primes!

If I ruled the (Pentax) world...

I just want a bigger dynamic range (don't need more pixels, or even more lenses at the moment!). Would love to be able to ditch ND grads if the sensor could handle a larger range (even at the expense of larger RAW files). Matt

New Toy, I'm in love!

I've spent the afternoon playing with my new toy, a Tamron 300mm F2.8 MF prime. It's old, heavy and the all metal casing has seen some heavy use (though not abuse from the look of it), but the optics are clean and crystal clear, the aperture is snappy and the focus is a dream, not too heavy nor t...
