Pentax 135K 2.5 f/s at LCE

Good Spot, an under-rated lens - I used one with my first MX back when I was a teenager, got some very pleasing shots from it. It's a little low-contrast generally (and doesn't handle shooting towards a light source too well) but that can be dealt with in PP nowadays. LCE (Colchester) have an A...

LX Diopter Adjustment

Given what you'd said in your 2 posts above, I think its a bit of trial and error, focus on a subject of your choice whilst turning the diopter adjustment with and without your contact lenses in / out and see which offers the best options. With an autofocus camera, I let the camera give me focus ...

LX Diopter Adjustment

Thank you Chris! Yes, like you say, this turned out to a case of trial and error. I found an online LX manual and adjusted the viewfinder until all the lines in the central part of the focussing screen were sharp. The diopter then showed roughly -1. A few days ago I received my newly acquir...

Help I was uneducated.

Back in time before I was educated I used "CHINON" A dirty word I know. BUT. I could not afford a Pentax for a few years so bought the Chinon because it used Pentax lenses. FORWORD THINKING. I always fancied Pentax. My pentax history started with a Z1p and a 645. Through the DSLR's from *istD to my ...

Help I was uneducated.

Thanks to Kris and John. It's not desperate. I just fished it out and found the winder isn't working as it should do. Kris. You are right when you said it was a sophisticated beast. Chinon were an independent company owned by Mr Chino and made Kodaks first zoom compact camera. Later Kodak who had s...

Pentax P30

I had a P30 a few years back... it is a great little camera, but i prefered the "older" ones. The P30 is neither fully electronic, or manual and i found that a bit annoying, so i tended to use the MEs, MX, K1000 etc. It is a great camera to play with though, i got some good shots with mine.

Pentax P30

P30s (and the ir T and N variants) are the best bargain around in manual focus 35mm film SLRs. Solid and reliable with a very good viewfinder. Very common and without the classic looks of the K100 or ME Super means that prices are generally very low though.

K-1000

@PRYorkshire Thank you! That's all great to know. I thought about cleaning it but I'm not good with... well, a lot of things, and I'm a little afraid that I might not get it back together, or I might accidentally break something that wasn't broken before. It's happened before with items I was told w...

Coconut oil?

Before spending too much time cleaning I would carry out a few basic checks. Firstly if you don't have one the user manual can be found here:- https://usermanual.wiki/Asahi-Pentax/AsahiPentaxK1000InstructionManual774155.1492674421.pdf Remove the lens if fitted, open the back, set the shutte...

Pentax MX Issue - winder.

I have an MX which occasionally locks up and won't allow me to wind or fire the shutter. I can usually get it working by some jiggling of the shutter button and winding lever but I don't use that camera to shoot any more. I have a few other MXs that work fine. I'll give this a little go later. It ...

Pentax ME-F Infinite Winding

Hey all, I recently purchased a second-hand Pentax ME-F that had been sitting in a cupboard for who knows how long. I did some playing around and after a couple of test shots the advance lever would just continuously wind and the shutter release wouldn't fire. Any ideas on what the problem might be...

Black and white film

I use Analogue Wonderland. If you buy your film from them, the packaging can easily be re-used to send the exposed film back. I have only used their developing service for colour films, but would recommend them for black and white as well. They provide scans online, rather than on disc.

Black and white film

I've used Analogue Wonderland, FilmDev, AG Labs, all with satisfaction. Now I mostly have gone back to dev and scanning myself for b&w, only sending off colour.

Pentax MZ-7 mirror motor gear repairer?

The repair is very difficult as you need to take the camera apart completely. The gear is right at the centre. I took an MZ-5 apart a few years ago, having ordered replacement brass cogs from a company in Poland, but I wasn't able to do the repair or put the camera back together again. It's just ...

Which colour film? Slide or neg.

The current choices in slides are expensive and I find don't scan wonderfully. Curious.... Did you use a dedicated transparency scanner or an adaptor for flat bed? When I used to scan slides I used a Canon transparency scanner. Fair enough back then it cost an arm and a leg, but it did the job...

Which colour film? Slide or neg.

As an occasional film user (in my P50 and Z-1p) the price of film makes me weep, as does the processing costs. When I was transitioning to digital, Kodak was slowly discontinuing Kodachrome, the final nail was the closure of the Hemel Hempstead lab. The feeling of putting your finished film in t...

Some thoughts on the K1000

I always said I wouldn't get a K1000 because it was over-hyped and over-priced. Last year I was given one, which I then got serviced. On the whole, I rather like it; solid, simple, unfussy. In fact I like it more than I thought I would. My only gripes are (a) no shutter lock. I keep getting fra...

Some thoughts on the K1000

I still have my k1000 that I purchased from a Comet closing down sale in Armley Road, Leeds, back in 1986 I think, have the receipt too. Couldn't resist as half price £45 IIRC, bought as a backup to my ME Super - first SLR for me. One thing not mentioned is that the meter will be on all the time d...

The New Pentax 17

When I saw the price yesterday my eyes just about popped out of my head and I spent the next five minutes repeating to myself: "Five. Hundred. Dollars. For a guess-focus half-frame camera..." Making it half-frame is a big mistake as it seriously limits the quality it can achieve. Making it...
