K-1000

I feel kinda bad for making a post here because I'm not actually a Pentax user, but I felt this was probably the best place to go.

I have an Asahi Pentax K-1000 that was given to me as a gift ten to fifteen years ago. The person who gave it to me said it was over 20 years since they had used it. I'm pretty dumb so I never was able to figure out how to use it. I tried a few times, but 🤷‍♀️. I don't want it to just be setting in my house all of the time, collecting dust (as you'll see it's been doing in the pictures) so I've decided to try to sell it. I was just wondering if someone could tell me which version they think it is (#2 is my best guess but I don't know enough to decide for sure) and maybe a rough estimate of a selling price, from for parts to maybe what it would be worth in good working condition. I'm just not sure at all what it might be worth. Just looking for a few opinions. Also, the case is starting to disintegrate (or maybe it has been for a while, the red on the camera is from the case) and I was wondering if it's worth keeping it in the case or if it would be better to throw the case out to keep getting the red particles on the items stored in it. Also, I realize I'm not holding it the best way in the pics. There is other stuff with it, in case that's a question. Thanks in advance.

I cannot suggest which version this camera is, but looking on EBAY there are a number offered for sale which could be used as a guide for value

This is a Hong Kong assembled version with the prism logo, so should have metal top and bottom plates. More desirable than the later plastic Chinese versions but not as desirable as the early Japan built models.

Assuming working and with the 50mm f2 lens, on an ebay auction, wouldn't ever likely be under 60 gbp, could be 100 gbp or more.

Looks in good condition.

Just noticed that the camera has the raised circular bump on the top plate on the rewind lever side. This identifies the camera as made in Japan and so possibly an early one assembled in Hong Kong from Japanese parts, circa 1978. Later Hong Kong cameras do not have the bump. As regards value with the camera having the Japan made bump and AOCo on the prism and if it is fully functional and cleaned up with new body seals and mirror foam then you should get anything from £150 to £200. In the condition it is in then it's probably worth around £100. Don't bother with the case if it is disintegrating.

The serial number ties in with 1978 as my K1000 is serial number 777xxxx and was bought new in Jan 1979. However mine has no mention of Hong Kong and so I've always assumed it was made in Japan during the transition of assembly to Hong Kong during 1978.

@PRYorkshire Thank you! That's all great to know. I thought about cleaning it but I'm not good with... well, a lot of things, and I'm a little afraid that I might not get it back together, or I might accidentally break something that wasn't broken before. It's happened before with items I was told wouldn't break. The pricing really helps. I plan on putting a buy now price on it but I don't mind offers. There are two other lenses and a couple of other items so at least this way I can take into account it may not work, balance it out and figure out a decent selling price for everything. I wish I could figure it out to see if it works, it's probably something easy my brain isn't picking up. I've used film cameras in the past because I used to take a lot of pictures, it's why I was given this as a gift, but those cameras were really cheap, nothing of this quality or age. I've always felt bad that it just sat there.
