CLA LX vs MX
Following Kris' comment above, if the bits cost £10 then the time charge from Harrow is @£40 an hour, assuming a competent technician can turn a camera around in one and a half hours. A good CLA from a reputable company is always well worth doing, they all give a warranty on their work and the la...

ME super sees the light
If you search ebay for 'Light Seal' you'll find what you need to bring this venerable camera back to full life. Mine has a 50mm f1.7 on and gets used from time to time. But be warned, B&W will get addictive, there's the developing side to explore and...

MZ S
MZ range is prone to shutter faliure(I have an MZ7 with this problem) If you want to use a non digital Pentax, then I would go for the Super A. I deeply regret trading in my Program A & my Super A, for the MZ7. If you're eyesight is good, you will find the Super A(manual focus), a great cam...

Damaged Asahiflex IIa valuation.
I have just taken delivery of an Asahiflex IIa with 58mm f2.4 and a 135mm lens to fit. It is working ok except it seems to have been damaged in transit. The nameplate has been bashed and the screw that holds it on has been sheared off. This is also interfering with the finder opening. 58mm 2.4 le...

Damaged Asahiflex IIa valuation.
It depends upon the price you will end up paying. The camera is relatively rare in the UK and might be worth repairing. You have one decent lens. You might be able to get your money back later and find a better one. Only you can decide if the price is worth it. The theoretical value of a mint cam...

Super A, aperture not working?
I hope the blast was on the outside!!:? Generally it is best to keep WD40 well away from cameras! Hope you enjoy the Super A. I had mine new back in the 80's and It's still going strong.

New (to me) Pentax MX - damaged??
Wow, some quick responses, thanks guys. I've opened up the back & the light seals, while still there (unlike the mirror bumper), are not in a healthy state. I've inquired at the only local (Edinburgh) camera repair place I know of (Cameratiks) and they have quoted me £29 to replace the light s...

New (to me) Pentax MX - damaged??
Thanks everyone for the advice. The camera is currently having it's light seals & mirror bumper renewed in Cameratiks, because I hate e-bay (& paypal) and there doesn't seem to be another source for the materials. They've said they'll check it out for anything else too, but I'm heading back to Spa...

Film advice?
I'd try a C41 process film first for ease of use, until you get the hang of it. You can bung the film in at any high street, and you'll get the negatives back with a cheap set of prints. OK, they'll have a colour cast, but will give you an idea of your output. You can then scan the negs and easily c...

Film advice?
As regards the chromogenic BW films... These films have a wide exposure latitude so it is very difficult to "get it wrong" (whatever wrong is...). If you over expose you get lower contrast but finer grain, whereas if you underexpose you get higher contrast but coarser grain. With Kodak BW400CN ...

Film advice?
I was just about to write something very similar to John but he beat me to it. I've always suspected that automated labs who dont have a high volume throughput (is that a word?) will be using stale chemicals anyway. Everything I've ever seen done for others seems to produce terribly thin negative...

Film advice?
Oh dear - don't be put off:shock: Develop and scan is what i do - I generally find prints cost extra. Most places will do the scans for you and put on a CD although this may cost marginally more. For a 35mm film at the Ilford photo lab I think developing the negs costs about £6.50 and then the scans...

P30t - which slide film?
Evening all. My first SLR camera was a P30n back in the 90s. I've just won a P30t with Pentax A28-80mm F3.5-4.5, 80-200mm zoom (unspecified make), Soligor 200mm and Pentax AF2605A flash on ebay for £38.00. I fancy running some slide film through it when it arrives. I never shot slide when ...

MX & ME base plates compared ....
In case of the ME super, I don't like the use of the pushbuttons but prefer a normal shutter speed dial, like the one in the MX and Leica. I agree with you on that point. The front and back edials on a K7 or K5 are better than either option though! Have you ever tried a Pentax DSLR? Much smaller tha...

Super ME screen
I had an ME Super with this problem back 3-4 years ago. Sent it to Pentax who said it couldn't be repaired. Don't think it was Johnsons then, so maybe you will have more luck with them. Hope so, lovely camera, I still miss it! Paul

Pentax LX
The best of the manual focus Pentax SLRs. Superbly accurate meter, excellent system of accessories including interchangeable viewfinders and focusing screens, daatabacks, power winder, motordrive... It is easily as good as something like the Nikon F3 but much smaller and much lighter. If, heave...

Pentax LX
The LX is a great camera with a huge list of advatages compared to rest of the Pentax manual focus cameras. There are a few things to watch though (as always with most 30yr old cameras): - They were professional cameras and many have been used as such, so there will be some that have seen heavy p...

Pentax LX
The MX is certainly simpler than the LX, but compared to today's cameras, the LX itself is pretty simple, and there is no point in sacrificing the LX's huge advantages just because an MX is simpler. Taken altogether, many people would say that the LX was the best manual-focus 35mm film camera eve...
