Same old, same old

Sorry, been away for a few days. Two words came to mind when I saw these - calm; quiet. That was for the impression they gave. There's a third word that comes to mind as to the capture - excellent. Thank you, i do like the solitude The first one is super. What time did you get up to take th...

Winterborne Farringdon

Winterborne Farringdon is a village in South Dorset that was abandoned in medieval times. Why it was abandoned is not known, but unlike many abandoned villages it doesn't appear to have been due to plague. The village is now a field. All that is visible is the east wall of the village church (believ...

To HDR or not to HDR

I0d say the HDR one looks awful to be frank - it's very obviously HDR. I'd take the first one and lower the shadows to give it back some contrast.

Durdle Door

For years I have been going down tto Dorset and I have been to Lulworth Cove at least three times. I never realised how close to the cove is Durdle Door, so I went and took some Photos, Before anybody says I should heve gone onto the beach, it is a steep climb back to the car park, and at my age I ...

Bit of fun - Guess the plant

Now that brings back memories from long, long ago, when I was a little kid and dinosaurs roamed the earth. My father had an asparagus plant in the garden. He just let it grow every year, never ate it, presumably had it as an ornamental plant. It seemed huge to us kids. We used to run and ride tricyc...

A different way of seeing

I'm a bit addictive with my photography, I have to take photos most days - most are total rubbish, some are okay and occasionally I get a keeper - but I'm appreciating more and more that it's not just the main subject that really makes the image, it's sometimes the background - the out of focus are...

Why use a proper camera when you can do this with an iPhone

Horses for courses. This is a flat plane, unencumbered shot that only has two criteria. Exposure (bang on) focus (bang on). It is clinically precise. All mobile phones ought to be able to do this. Now turn it three quarter view with a twig in the way and reflective leaves as a background ??

Holywell Bay

Is that first one a tripod-mounted selfie? And even if it isn't, how did you not leave footprints? Or is it an arch rather than a cave and you can walk to the other side without going through it? Steve Morning Steve, its a proper cave and goes back some 75m or more, I used the Mrs as a stooge ...

It's a grey day ....

So I went out looking for whatever colour I could find in this bitingly cold February afternoon. 'Imbolc' is supposed to be the start of Spring on February 1st, according to our pagan brethren. They could be right from what I found. These were taken with a K1 and a Vivitar 100mm f2.8. It was, howeve...

Sandpipers Sheltering.

Thank you Kevin. I wish I had used a higher f stop though, depth of field is shallow, I was rushing and they let me get up close. I quite like the fact that not everything is in focus - you've done a decent job IMO  :liked:

Sandpipers Sheltering.

Agree with all the comments. The parts of each image that are in focus are superb, f/8 obviously a sweet spot for the lens. For me the out of focus areas enhance the images. Very jealous that you got such a great experience

The very versatile Zeiss 50mm Pancolar

I said several weeks ago that I would post this set once I had edited them all. I am still getting used to this wonderful lens. No wonder they get snapped up so quickly whenever they appear. It can be used wide open for dreamy bokeh, right through to stopped down for crisp details. Hazel catkins ...

The very versatile Zeiss 50mm Pancolar

Very nice results. I don't have this lens but I do have a Pentacon Auto 50mm f/1.8 which can focus closer than the vast majority of 50mm lenses, making it handy for close-ups and giving the possibility of some crazy bokeh and shallow DoF at minimum focus distance.

A few more spring flowers

Always lovely to see a spring selection - the out of focus areas in that last image are amazing. Shows why you should always have some old glass in the collection :liked:

Guess the Weed (Macro)

Life has got in the way of photography for quite a while. However, today the withdrawal symptoms from macro photography finally overcame the pressure to do what needs doing and this evening I found a little weed in a flower pot and took its picture. Well, took a lot of pictures actually because the ...

SO -- I fired up my 2007 PENTAX K10D once again after a long 'rest' due to being Fed Up with the Back Focus Troubles I tried a Free Gift SIGMA UC Zoom 28-70mm f2.8-4 and set ISO 125 ( like FP4 + film) and some on ISO 400 ( Like HP5+ film) and RAW files which I processed in FastStone Image V...
