MZ-S problem with AF?
Greetings to all I'd like to have some your corteous opinion or advice on a problem i found on a Pentax MZ-S i've just bought. The camera was a demo version in a foto shop, the only one remaining, and the dealer sold me it for a convenient price (not so convenient to me anyway, it's still an expen...

MZ-S problem with AF?
Hallo Stephen Seems that it was a focusing screen problem. Infact, with my relief, the photos taken in AF (motorized or with indication in the viewfinder) are correctly focused, while the MFs not! Ok, but still there is a problem in the mf path; unfortunately the focusing screen seems to be in t...

izzy bitzy *ist report
I really bought the new Pentax *ist 35mm SLR as a light-weight, small "MX-spirit" upgrade to my heavy and bulky PZ-1. I also got the light weight Pentax 28-105 f/3.2-4.5 snubby zoom to got with it. At first, I was shocked to find that the aperture ring when off A settings locked the camera and the m...

MZs or EOS3 ?
I have decided to upgrade from my trusty MX to an autofocus system. I want a tough, relatively compact and light body with top quality lenses, probably a wide angle zoom, wide appature 50mm standard and a 70ish to 200ish zoom. I am a climber and often take photos in cold, wet and dusty places ...

MZs or EOS3 ?
Kim C Fiddly to use? The Z1-P? Are you one of those who still sets the aperture on the lens? Personally, I find the Z1-P easier to use than any camera I have ever owned, and that's a lot, going back to a folding Kodak in the fifties, and using all sorts of things since then. The tragedy of the ...

MZs or EOS3 ?
Hi George, As my first choice of camera is generally one of my LXs, I still use an A ring, I haven't found a way to avoid it . For digital, I have a Minolta RD3000 - not an A ring in sight on the Vectis lenses. Seriously though, I don't think there is a "best" camera and my comments wer...

MZs or EOS3 ?
Just a quick note of thanks for the advice. I have just got my first trial roll back. I am very pleased with my choice, which will get far more use than the EOS 3 would have done. It really is amazing how much difference autofocus and auto exposure makes over my old MX, which I am keeping as ...

bayonet mount
Hi! I think you must have Hanimex lenses with bayonets, but not Pentax bayonet. The Pentax K-fit bayonet hasn't changed, and Pentax have only two standards: M42 screw thread, and K-bayonet. Admittedly, the bayonet has various flavours (Manual, Auto, Auto Focus etc), but even an early Pentax bayo...

Super A versus ME Super
I have been following Ebay a lot recently, and am struck by the fact that ME Supers tend to fetch prices as high or higher than the Super A. Why? The Super A is a superior camera in every way, with all the ME Super's convenience plus a lot more functionality. I've owned both, plus the original ...

lens aperture not working & i cant open my battery cover?
Hi again, sorry but I missed part of your last post. If the whole battery compartment is coming out, I think you will have a problem. I don't know if it will help but you can download a copy of the spotmatic repair manual here. http://www.robertstech.com/pentax.htm However, taking a camera apart i...

MZ5n: Cleaning behind focus screen
If you did manage to do this and the replacement was even a fraction out, you would focus incorrectly ever afterwards, so it's not a good idea. Dirt in the viewfinder system will not affect the image on the film, but you could send the camera for professional cleaning if you wished. I'd live with...

MZ5n: Cleaning behind focus screen
Thanks for the reply John. I know it wont affect the image, its just that there appears to quite a lot of debris in there. I'm going to arrange a professional service for this body. Again many thanks.

*ist photo modes
Hi - recently purchased the *ist unit. Whenever I press the shutter release half way and the unit focus's the picture mode changes from multi, to single, to double to timer and so on - as if pressing the button under the display that changes the mode. Is this a fault or is it the way I have the c...

MX metering doesn't work on all Speeds and ASAs
I've just aquired an MX, came with a marked screen, but that came off with soapy water (yes, I did take the focus screen out of the camera first). I've noticed that the meter only works from 1 second and faster if the ASA is set to 100 or slower. ASA200 at 1 second doesn't work ASA 400 at 1/2...

HELP
I found an older pentax, ME Super. I loaded some batteries in it and it came back to life. I put a new roll of film in it too. Now when I advance the file and press the shutter button to take a picture,I hear nothing. No click. So I am wondering, should I hear one like my other Canon cameras, eve...

HELP
When you press the shutter are the LEDs in the viewfinder active? To check if the shutter is opening and closing, open the camera back (without a film in!) and fire the shutter. You will be able to see what is happening.

Buying an *ist D from USA
Hi I'm thinking of doing the same - if I don't make it to the States myself in the next month (which I may be able to swing) then I might ask a relative who is returning to the UK from NY for a week or so, to bring me one back. Where did you buy? Was it in NY? Did you ring and pay for it yo...

Buying an *ist D from USA
Dear Matt, I immediately went out and bought one of the Sigma 18-50mm digital lenses. It had excellent reviews and was cheap. I'm pleased with it, although I need to spend a good few weeks experimenting to see what causes the good/bad pics - me, the camera, the settings or the lens. I suspect th...

Buying an *ist D from USA
Dave, It is true there are a lot of Pentax SMC lenses that are manual focus on ebay. Some of the real gems are the SMC-F and SMC-FA, both autofocus, and these hardly ever come up on ebay - probably because once you've got one you don't want to part with it :) Like you, I like the one-lens-for-...
