Qs -- *ist custom functions
Hello all -- occasional lurker from the US here. I very recently bought a *ist (film, of course!) with the FA-J 28-80 lens. Lovely camera, and it's great fun learning to use it. I've used Pentax for years and years -- I still have a Pentax Spotmatic I bought new in 1969, but this is my first ...

new lens for my p30t
Hi Jamie, you are right about the lens mount for your camera it is a KA mount. Lenses with the 'A' setting found on the KA mount are the best match for your camera - it allows full use of the program mode. You can use a 'K' mount lens (one with no 'A' setting), this will only give you metered manual...

lens manufacturers
I have to agree with JR. However, I do have three very nice Tokina lenses from their AT-X range: 20-35, 28-70/f2.8, and 24-200. All are very good lenses indeed. A little on the cool side, but sharp and with little distortion. I would recommend them all. I have found them excellent. However, I ...

Pentax *ist, how to keep the shutter open for bulk mode ?
Glad you have it sorted out Jerome! I had started a thread on the CS205 and its pinouts way back in November (as soon as I managed to get one): https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/ftopic266.html I know others have benefitted already. But thanks for the link you gave - just adds some extra info ;...

Pentax K2 DMD problem
I too had problems until I went back and read the manual, which is very clear that the compensation must be at zero. If you do that, it is fine, but means that you can only move it by one step at a time, then set the compensation back to zero. All you need is patience! regards

ME Super stuff
The ME Super did not cause as much of a stir as its predecessor, the ME, which came out in 1976. This was tiny compared to other SLR's and quickly became enormously popular. I bought one within a month of their introduction, having bought a K2 when they first appeared a year earlier. The ME had a...

ME Super stuff
Thanks for your replies, people. I got my first film back the other day. Yes, I think I need better processing than Boots 1hr!! I was impressed with lots of shots I took. However I need a bit of practice with the focussing and metering systems. I used Fuji Superia 400 as I don't ha...

ME Super stuff
The fact that some of your shots were OK suggests that the camera is functioning properly, and the focus problems are probably down to you. You're not used to having to focus! Practice will make perfect. The small mark in the corner is more of a worry. First, take your next film to a different...

ME Super stuff
Sounds as though you're getting there Mark. To maximise the depth of field and help ensure that critical areas are in focus, stop down to the smallest aperture available (larger number on aperture ring - think in terms of fractions!) and consider shorter focal lengths as wide angles have better dep...

pentax mx, me or me super
Hi, You pose a difficult question and it is difficult to find a camera that does everything. The biggest problem is cost. A very good starting place is here http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/ The "bible" for bayonet mount. It is also worth hunting through the posts as many of the cameras have been...

Stuck shutter on Pentax MZ50 - HELP! HELP!
My very reliable MZ50 just died half way though a film. The shutter has stuck closed and the mirror half way up. All the other electronics seem to work (including the mid-roll rewind). When it is switched on it makes a whirring noise -- the sound of a small motor straining. I have tried new batte...

Stuck shutter on Pentax MZ50 - HELP! HELP!
After 2 years of no trouble my Pentax MZ50 has died and done the same thing and will cost me up to $600 in Australia to get fixed. I believe these cameras have got nothing going for them. As they are expensive people will start to realise the the price will come down and we won't buy them anymore. T...

MZ-S or *IST D
Buying the MZ-S is not necessarily a mistake. I shoot with my Sony DSC-707 and with my MX-6. I use a Nikon film scanner. Shooting digitally or scanning film generate enormous needs for new storage. Digital storage is unstable. CDs can suddenly deteriorate. Cds do take up space. Hard drives do die. ...

Pentax SF-7
Hi, Have a look through the threads. Just about everyone has their Pentax favourites! The general advice which I endorse is to stay with the Pentax brand. Most who have bought the independants have regretted it. As to the fit Pentax, have stayed true to the "K" mount albeit in a few minor variation...

ME Super or MZ-M, and are the lenses interchangeable?
I notice no body here has mentioned the MZ 50, a very cheap second hand buy (when they are available) and better than the MZ-M IMHO. I have an ME super, a spotmatic and an MZ-M, i like the MZ-M, but when I tried a friends MZ-50, i wish I had bought one instead of the MZ-M. I bought the MZ-M b...
