Hyperfocal Focus
You will have to excuse me if this seems to be a very stupid question but i just can't get my head around this. When focusing to get optimim sharpness do you use Hyperfocal Focusing, if so how? I have this image in my head that when taking say a landscape pic to focus one third into the image i wo...

Hyperfocal Focus
One third of the way in is right, using a small aperture such as f11, f16 or sometimes even f22. Focus using centre point only on the appropriate point, hold the shutter release half pressed to lock the focus and recompose to suit before fully pressing the shutter release.

Is it hard to find Pentax gear in the shops in your part of the world ?
Yesterday I had a wander around a number of large electronic outlet shops in and around Barkarby, Stockholm. (Very large shopping centre on the Northwest side of town). Bit depressing from a Pentax man's point of view to be honest. Of the shops visited, NetOnNet, El Giganten, OnOff, Siba, Expert and...

Is it hard to find Pentax gear in the shops in your part of the world ?
I have not seen any Pentax gear, in the flesh so to speak, for many years. The last shop here shipped what they had left back to Pentax. I might find something if I wanted to drive a 2-3 hour round trip.

Polarizer Querry
Yes it's fine. I have no problems with it at all, except I won't be able to sell it. It is always kept in it's case unless I'm using it and I have no idea when the flecks appeared, or what caused them, but as long as it functions I'm not too worried. I could probably send it back of course but it's...

Help understanding technicalities of Macro lenses
To be honest, the best way to get to grips with this is to try it for yourself. The readily obtainable and easiest route would be to use a 50mm f1.7 or F2 lens with a 2x converter and the use a 100mm Macro lens at f4. The spec of the converter/50mm option becomes effectively 100mm f4, so you c...

Help understanding technicalities of Macro lenses
The main benefit for me in using the longer focal length macro lenses is the increased minimum focus distance whilst maintaining a 1:1 magnification ratio. I use it mostly for insects, spiders, and other creatures that might take flight, sting, or bite if I got closer. I'm not sure you will ge...

Help understanding technicalities of Macro lenses
The main benefit for me in using the longer focal length macro lenses is the increased minimum focus distance whilst maintaining a 1:1 magnification ratio. I'm not sure you will get a similar increase in minimum focus distance by adding a T/C to a 100mm lens. Minimum focus distance stays the sam...

Energizer Lithium Advanced Batteries
I think Energizer Ultimate Lithium, disposable, AA batteries will be fine in your DL for tomorrow. I have got my mother using these, found cheap on the web, in her compact camera as she is always forgetting to charge up the NI-MH set. I agree with George though that in the long run you should so...

Energizer Lithium Advanced Batteries
Thanks guys! I have taken Leytono's advice and skedaddled down to Superdruggy and got a 6 pack. Hopefully they should last me a good while as I won't be using auto focus! I'll let you know how I get on... Hopefully post a shedload of photo's to from the event!

Energizer Lithium Advanced Batteries
These batteries are superb... A full day shooting and they are still showing full charge! Fair enough I didn't use auto focus. I am very impressed. :D

Duck out of water
Well my K-7 grip arrived half an hour ago from Adorama. The battery is arriving later. So I have my K-7 body, grip and no lens!! My trip to Bahrain two weeks back was not wasted as I got two lenses for the D700 but the local Pentax dealer had not one Pentax lens in stock. So I wait until August ...

Der Spiegel
I am sure this has been discussed before somewhere but back in the days of film SLRs, the only way to accurately see the image to be photographed was via a mirror reflecting the scene onto a screen in a viewfinder. So, why in this digital age should the mirror be retained as it is a very simple matt...

Der Spiegel
Possibly, but not everyone likes looking at an EVF and they are more difficult to see in bright light. The colour reproduction may not be accurate, they drain the battery, manual focusing is all but impossible, the refresh rate isn't up to following fast moving objects. That's a few reasons! But ...

Highly expensive video cameras use black and white EVFs, and they are said to be very easy to focus. However, the colours don't look too good. Personally, I rather like the old spiegel. G

I tried the G1 out a few weeks back, and although I found the EVF to be better than any I'd seen before, I thought for general viewing (ignoring the zoom capabilities for a moment) it wasn't a patch on an optical viewfinder. However, given the progress in this sort of area, I can't wait for the d...

Also don't forget the nostalgic value of a mirror, simply that sound :) I like the sound of steam trains but wouldn't want them back on the railways as a prime mover  Give me electric any day, just like you have in the Netherlands :D

Mercury batteries: Legal position.
I don't know about the legal side (although I doubt the authorities would be all that interested either way) but as these haven't been manufactured for a while now any you get hold of must be relatively old, hence my greatest concern would be do they still work? :? It'd be a lot of hassle (and mo...
