photo assistant of the future????
here's a video clip of my robot. his head is off, and there's a salad bowl covering the mount and wiring. laugh at the fake arms....he's got real ones on the drawingboard, and fiberglass body panels being made. but as he sits....he pumps out 400 watts of power, can recharge all my batteries.......

Off on my hols!
Thanks guys. Clarky, my OH says he will not let me anywhere near the rim at Grand Canyon, and will watch me like a hawk anywhere else we go. So hopefully I will come back in one piece! I'm sure we will have a great time. Don't expect any photographic masterpieces from me though.

In case you wondered...
I am sorry to hear you've had some rough times. Glad you're bouncing back! Some people say "That which doesn't kill you...makes you stronger"... (We'd all be Supermen) I say that which doesn't kill you...leaves you wounded and bleeding. But if your bleeding, you're still alive! and i...

greetings from Las Vegas
Hi everyone, we are in Las Vegas tonight. Not a neon sign or a casino in sight :D We are in the original Las Vegas - in New Mexico, staying at a hotel patronised by Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday and others, in their day. We have had 35 temps, 20cm of snow and everything in between so far. Lots of phot...

Need help from HTML afficionados
Frames is only old hat when it comes to search engines (they hate frames, probably because so many abused them!) However, there are easier ways to deal with frame-like setups. For example SSI (server side includes) can simulate frames for you - for example your menu and title can be done as an SS...

Need help from HTML afficionados
I think you could use an inline frame (iframe), set within its own css element, so that when the element was made visible you would see the framed content. However, the main problem with frames is that the search engines get confused by them. As long as there's not content within them that you w...

A (somewhat rhetorical) ethical question.
Consider the following hypothetical scenario. An amateur photographer goes pro. Instead of the amateur places he used to hang out at, he now frequents places more in keeping with his professional status. However, every so often, he comes across something he needs help with. Presumably the pr...

A (somewhat rhetorical) ethical question.
IMO, it should always be give and take - or rather take and give. I am involved (and moderate) in professional technical forums and get irked when all I ever see from someone is "take" when those that "give" do so freely of their time. I'm always happy to help anyone, but with...

A (somewhat rhetorical) ethical question.
Roger Hicks (AP's back page beardie philosopher) has an apposite column this week. One quote: 'They don't buy (new equipment) because they know how it will enable them to do a better job, they buy it as a substitute for creativity and intelligence.' One thing about this hypothetical poster is tha...

Would you buy?
Yes, I had messaged him, and he's replied already. He says: "I'm an American photographer living here in the UK for many years, and I do this to make a little bit of extra cash to fund my lens buying habit! It is a US scanner which is the same as the UK version- just needs a UK kettle lea...

Would you buy?
I had one a couple of years ago. Sold it after i had finished scanning my last slides. If I would decide to buy a scanner again, i would go for the Epson Pro 750 flatbed instead. Almost as good as the Nikon Coolscan, cheaper new as the Coolscan used, and more flexible in use. You don't want the Cool...

Would you buy?
Sorry Chris impossible to answer, it depends on resolution and how much processing is done during the scan. I just did a load of straightforward 3300 X 2000 pixel scans for my daughter but the film was cut into lengths of 4 images. The originals were frankly not worth bothering too much so they ...

Would you buy?
I will just do a time trial and get back to you Thanks!! Returning to my original question, I notice that the has been bid up to very nearly the new price from Microglobe already, so it's completely moot. However, you guys have thrown me into complete confusion over which one to get, but I d...

Ebay prices, its a lottery
I have a Kiron 105 in PKA which unfortunately has a problem with its focus ring. It doesn't go all the way to 1:1, which is a shame. Seems to be a very nice lens though. I often toy with the idea of sending it to one of the classic camera specialists and seeing if they can fix it.
