It seems that being in possession of a very nice camera avec nice 10-20 lens one can become the focus of unwanted attention, either that or people are becoming ultra sensitive. I shall explain myself, today; I decided to go to a nearby town that is just undergoing that dreaded metamorphosis ‘reg...

I've had similar experiences - but only a very few times - and all in the last couple of years. I don't quite understand the attitude. One example: I was photographing the unusual QVC building in London from the public road. A security guard came out and told me that I wasn't allowed to. I tri...

....People seem to assume all cameras are digital nowdays. I've been asked, and I've heard others asked, to "delete" pictures by someone who hasn't seen the camera well enough to know whether it's digital or film. And it is quite difficult unless they see the back or have specific knowle...

If you get stopped by a bobby, he or she will be doing so because of reasons you may not be aware of or appreciate. More than likely they will be curious. If you satisfy their curiosity they will understand what you are doing. If after speaking to you, they receive further calls, you've already been...

Not quite totally OT. External disk drive conundrum
Don't think the drive would be cause, as any drive should be more than quick enough for USB2. Might be a setting on/in the case. So were these off the back of a lorry? Can't you get a replacement? Sounds like they're new (to you). :? Dan

Back of a lorry? How dare you, sir? That's two insults in a week, Bridge; your card is marked. I humbly seek your exculpation. Dan

Are you doing the flying as well as the photographing? I hope not :!: :!: :!: Well I always do, for mine, as I think Dirk does too. You do have to be careful, and have a good look round first. But it's not that difficult, once you're used to it. Reading Dan's post again, if he's not sure wha...

It just sounded rather alarming - I find helmimg a yacht and taking photographs to be sufficiently testing, but that is mainly because if there is anything worth photographing, it means that you are either in close proximity of the shoreline or other boats :!: Well the issue in the air is that if y...

I was once told by a pro. photorapher many many years ago that he had two 645's fastened one to each wing tip and loaded with 70mm film in the special back for the 645. these were connected with one plunger opperating two cables and he had the cameras pointed very slightly down and in then when he w...

All of what I say in this post refers to fixed wing, not rotary. From my experience, changing lenses when it's bumpy is not ideal. This is true, and as it happens, I usually use the 28-200 too. However, it's the least of your worries. If it's bumpy enough, the risk is that you'll smack yo...

Erm, I don't believe a word of this. If it's a two seater (eg Cessna 150 or 152) then it's physically impossible to switch seats, and in a four-seater you'd have to be in the back, with no one else also in the back, and that's just nuts - if you're the only passenger, you want to be up front anyway...

Well, thanks again for all your comments and tips, but the flight never happened (too windy/couldn't get hold of pilot), and the client decided it wasn't the shot they were after anyway. But, it's still on my wish list. Ken, the helicopter would be an R22 Robinson, practically a motorbik...

I have a few thousands hours flying planes and sailplane and I've never been airsick YET. My wife says I have a cast iron stomach, but I can tell you something worst than airsickness. Yes, you guessed right! Once, I've had diarrhea while flying with no place to land for 20 minutes flying time. T...

You've obviously never done a balloon flight in the UK! I think Virgin's standard rate is £280 per person. I suppose I could try to find an independent pilot, but the area I want to photograph is on the outskirts of London, and any direction we flew in would most likely end up in a densely...

The cost in Brisbane is $255-310 AUD (119-144 GB pounds). Its seems reasonable value for the amount of time your up - about an hour. When we did it (1995) it was about £60 each, which was way cheaper than in the UK, we were flying for about an hour and a half, and we had a cooked breakfast when we l...

Okay, perhaps not haze, but judging by the brown tint around the horizon, which is probably hovering over the M25, it was definitely a little murky. Perhaps I didn't know how lucky I was. :D Looking again at the original, the top right corner definitely suffers a lack of definition, which the t...

No Vlieland photos
Just back from my long weekend on Vlieland. It was dry most of the time, though windy - but then it is March, and Vlieland is a patch of sand facing the North Sea. Sadly no photos for you of this lovely island. :( I fell and dislocated my elbow just after getting there on Friday, so have had my ...
