lol, it's amazing how many people have no clue what to do with a 4x4 though. It's not a panacea, you have to know how to use it or you're better off without it.

I learned to drive in a Land Rover on mud, and I'd be willing to bet I can take my Peugeot 306 (2wd, diesel) to places most people in 4x4s couldn't get.

Putting average mother(or father)-of-two in a 4x4 and expecting them not to get stuck is like giving them a K10D and expecting them to turn into Ansel Adams, except worse because most 4x4s don't have a Green Button.

Well, we are in the middle of an extreme snow watch. Woke up to wind chill of -30C and approximately 60-70cm of snow. Back garden has totally disappeared including the 90cm fence for the dogs. Had to dig a trench to let the dogs out. I have two West Highland White Terriers and they, who normally revel in the cold and snow, don't want to stay out.

Funny, with the wind there is no snow on the car in the drive but here is a 100cm wall of snow all around it. My wife is happy her car is snug and dry in the garage.

My daughter sent an e-mail from Trinidad today where she is basking in the sun - little does she know that her car has disappeared completely under the drifts.

The Automobile Insurance for 4 X 4 vechicles in my Montreal, Quebec area is rising through the roof.

Every time we have a storm - like now - you will see more of these in the ditch than anything else - many upside down.

We do a lot of skiing here, and the standing joke is to tell these drivers to strap their skis to their roof racks with the tips forward and pointing down. We're trying to set distance records for roof skiing.

Their tires are actually designed for mud, and are huge. At -25C, the rubber gets hard, looses all grip and away we go.

If it is snowing, I would rather drive among semi-trailer trucks on the highway than anywhere near one of these menaces.

There is really nothing wrong with the car per se. It's Mr. or Ms. Invincible behind the wheel.

Very true Mac. Most people get lulled into a false sense of security.
they think 4x4's go anywhere and fail to adjust thier driving habits.

Then there's BC drivers....
I remember when I was 18, getting caught in a snowfall on my way back to Langley from skiing in whistler. There were cars in the ditch everywhere, at intersections police were pulling brooms out of their trunks to brush the broken head/taillights off the road. I had so many near misses as people stared at me in disbelief, like they'd never seen a Kawasaki before.

"I'm from Ontario!!!" I shout out when they rolled thier windows down at the stops...
