DO NOT open up the flash, it will hurt

Leave the flash off the camera and switched off, set the multi-meter to measure VDC. Put the leads for your meter onto the central contact on the flash (+ve lead) and the "earth" contact on the side of the hotshoe mounting on the flash (-ve lead), make sure you are NOT touching the tips of the leads, and turn on the flashgun. You will see the voltage climbing quite rapidly initially as the capacitors inside charge up. You should not have the flash mounted on the camera for doing this measurement. There is no need to fire a test pop on the flash.

I gave up measuring as my old National PE-[some number I can't remember] went past 300V DC. This kind of voltage will really hurt you if you touch it.

I made sure my reflection was cloned out, oops.

It was the eyemask hiding the lifeless dummy eyes that made me do a double take, that and the glove/sleeve thingy. Masks and single sleeves, hmm, not exactly mainstream, are they? Perhaps they are, perhaps I'm just out of touch. Perhaps those requests I made to my wife weren't as unreasonable as she made out.

Opinions gratefully received. Does this work? Having seen gartmores judgement I'm inclined to think I made the right choice.

Street Scene - Double Take

I'd leave the building on the tilt, it adds a certain dynamism. I'd clone out the bloke in the background though. The shadow is a great touch. In fact, if you crop very tight to just below the line of the kerb, leaving just the shadow, manhole cover and pattern of hte road it looks very cool indeed, to my eye at least.

Like the almost abstract nature of the patterns in this. Good contrast too to show them off on closer inspection.

Agree (viewed on a calibrated Eizo using Photoshop CS2). Number 1 is far too green for my tastes, but each to their own.

I robbed the strap off my old z50P, it has pockets built into the ends of the wide parts that are big enough to take an SD card (just). Have to say, the grippy bit on the inside of the K10D standard strap has more friction than the older strap.

I certainly agree with you. Your post was breath of fresh air in a thread that is otherwise more like I expect to see in DePressingReview. Use the screen for a quick and dirty composition/exposure check and leave the fine tuning until later. Look at the picture, not the pixels.

How other people interpret the theme is up to them, gartmore's brief is:

If an entrant chooses an interpretation that the person who's set the theme doesn't think is right, then it may not do so well in the comp., but that's entirely the entrant's choice to post whatever they regard as appropriate.

I did struggle for a very long time deciding which of two possible entries to post but went back to the original brief to think before posting my entry. I'll stick the other one up in "Your Photos" next week, no doubt to be told by gartmore he'd have much preferred to see that picture posted.
