I'm interested in users' opinions, quantitative and qualitative, of the value of the system, but can only find what Pentax have to say about it
Thanks in advance

There are various threads and external information on various sites about how to sort this.
They vary from blasting the sensor with air, using a sensor cleaning kit with isopropyl alcohol plus wipe, to an indignant "I wouldn't touch the sensor at all" from a man in the Spectrum shop in TCR
It's really up to you, have a read around.

Sigma sounds interesting, and the reviews I've read sound promising.
Not sure whether the speed is important though - would prefer f2.8!
I've already got the 18-35 supplied with the camera, so a 12-24 gives me the 12-18 range.
I was really just considering a 14mm fixed f2.8.
Would it be worth getting another (overlapping) zoom?
Views much appreciated....

Does anyone know when it will be?
my options are sigma or tamron f2.8 14mm units for about £600. I wonder if the "digital" pentax one will be any cheaper?
Has anyone else been waiting patiently for this lens?

Thanks for the info on the sensor.
The problem seems to have "gone away" - I had some images with a consistent bright blue pixel in a particular place which I could get back to by viewing an image, magnifying to x6, and moving right 8 times.
After finding it and contacting the place I bought it, I took it out and about anyway, and then even RAW images don't exhibit the problem any more. (It was never a problem with JPEG, which corroborates your technical explanation)
So I'm leaving it for the time being.
Thanks

It works fine.
Needs to be fairly accurately pointed at the camera, and thus often in shot, esp. on a wide angle shot!
Note that there are 2 models available for sale: one has additional features for zoom control: no good for the *istD, so get the cheaper model if available. I think it's about £20 in the UK
