my point (also want to buy a dslr) is also when te new one is coming out..

The ist-d is 'old' in terms of dslr with an 1.0 usb transfer, which is now 2.0(much faster) on the ist-ds(2).
i would like a 10Mb semi pro body just like the nikon d200 but than without problems

with photodo this lens http://www.photodo.com/nav/prodindex.html

comes out as grade 3, the 300 4.5 ED has a grade 4. i use this lens for theater work and it is very nice. i do not know the difference in price....
but with an 1.4x extender you would have the same as the 400 5.6, but with better glass...

Beware that the 85 1.4 is a massive glass lens and weights more than an average lens.... I use it in theater also (on mz-s). Very nice!
But on a digi it becomes a 125mm. A bit to long for my normal theater position. then the 50 1.4 would be better for me (becomes 75).

read lens tests before you buy the more

I learned that 35mm is capable to print max 18x24.
18x24 what? Inches, feet? However, I know this is rather misleading anyway. 35mm in the right hands can produce wall sized murals. In the wrong hands it can struggle to produce a decent postcard sized print! There really is no particular maximum size - it depends on the technique, the film, the processing, the printing, the viewing distance.

What I can tell you is that a good lens will produce a 16" x 12" print that will exceed the resolution of the human eye when viewed at arm's length.
cm of course..

The max enlargement is 8 times the size of the neg so is= 19x28 cm. for 35mm film. Above that you loose quality if you want it or not. changing development can decrease grain structure, but you will loose sharpness....

Only you can decide what you need, but the pentax DSLRs are capable of producing stunning A3 prints. Do you print bigger than this?
I learned that 35mm is capable to print max 18x24.

I know the D645 is coming next year, but i am afraid of the price it will cost...
I already have the 35mm, 75,120 macro and 200 lens for the 645 and love this system.

After thinking over and reading a lot of problems from guys with a canon 350, saying it stopped focussing. O no problem, send it back and pay 200 euro and it will be solved. Yeah! that's what i want....

I think to stay with pentax, but now comes the determining of which camera.
The Ist-D is already some years old withou the lack of usb2.0, smaller lcd screen etc... But has maybe nicer functionality what i use now on my mz-s. the istd-ds2 is very well priced, but not available in europe???

And how would you replace the 85?
Do nikon and canon make so bad lenses??
I know that the contax 85 1.4 has te same design as the pentax 85.

What is my problem?
I think that the 6Mb is not enough for me to work with. I am used to scan 645 negs and 6x12 transparencies with provides me 120mb or about 300 mb from my epson 3200 scanner for my website where i am working on (www.foto-art.nl). maybe i am wrong, but the whole camera world is moving up to 10mb (nikon d200 looks ok), and pentax stays at 6...

I know that nikon has hard lenses which are maybe a little to hard for showing reality, and the pentax has a very good light meter & a normal battery in stead of stupid battery packs. But i have to think carefully which step to take in the next couple of months...

Meanwhile, they have stopped selling many of the full-frame lenses, and almost all of the new lenses issued since the first DSLR came out have been designed for the smaller APS-C image circle.
That's a good view George, i haven't looked at it this way.
The only thing i have now is why i should stay then with pentax. Nikon and Canon have much more toys available these days......

Hi,

until now i used several analogue cameras such as the z1p and mz-s. Now i want to get the next year into the digital area besides my analogue interest (645nii and 4x5 shen hao). Is it worth the money to get the ist-d, or is the new ist-ds2 also a nice value for money kamera.
I also want to shoot theater with it....

Thanks.
