I have fingers like courgettes, and I fitted a Katz Eye to my K10D. I was terrified, but it was very very easy.

Thanks! That's pretty close focus!

Thanks for the tip! I bought an 18-55 from Parks yesterday, and it should be here on Monday. That goes with the Samsung 55-200 I got as a result of another tip on this board!

My heart's really in the older manual focus lenses, but with the AF ones available so cheaply, it's nice to be able to fall back on AF once in a while.

2 questions:

1 - should I expect to find a hood in the box?
2 - what's the close focus on this lens?

But how much for a new battery? Probably best to buy a dozen cameras so you never have to try to find one.
I think I had one of those Olympus jobbies and it took AA batteries.

Lenses have different looks too IMHO. One of the reasons I've ended up with Pentax is because I love the look of the 50mm M f1.4 lens. I've subsequently found that other lenses in the family have a similar look. Zeiss lenses in equivalent focal lengths might have different characteristics which some people might find desirable.

Chris Eubanks' truck, with a reflection of me! Taken on my Friday lunchbreak with my ME Super, 50mm f1.7 and Fuji Reala.

The f1.7 lenses are actually better than the f1.4 versions, especially up close. You can certainly abuse them more!
I'm not sure I can wholeheartedly agree with that. I definitely think they are comparable, but if I had to choose one, it would be the 1.4. It's probably my all time favourite lens. Maybe it's just love

I've bought a few Pentax film cameras to scratch an itch. Each of them has come with a Pentax SMC-M 50mm f1.7 lens, but in general I use them with my f1.4 or f1.2 50mm lenses. On a whim, I decided to use the f1.7 lens and was very pleasantly surprised. Very sharp, and beautiful out of focus properties. Here's an example scan (ME-Super, HP5 and ID11 stock)

Just wanted to let people know how great this cheap lens is.

The original. Is it better with B&W then? That'll be handy for the ebay listing.
I'm recycling information I've gleaned from the web, so you can't exactly call it an authoritative source I think the light source changed between the 5400 and the 5400 II, and people generally say that the mk1 is better for BW scans.

And yeah, I've read a lot about the Coolscans not being so good for BW, but I'm pretty happy with the 5000 to be honest. It's different from the V you mention, but gets similar press on BW.
