Been playing with some HDR images and was wondering if the sky in this one is too blue / non-believable.

Well, I finally got my Sigma 30mm, yay! However, I can't have to expensive primes so it's time to go for my FA50mm f1.4. Seeing as the previous 50mm f1.4 went on here for £225, I'm looking for about the same. She is in near mint condition - by near mint I mean that you can see an ever so slight mark on the black mounting area on the bottom of the lens. I took care to ensure that this was captured in my last photograph. On any of the zoomed out pictures / in real life it's barely noticeable, but I feel it's only fair to point out. Obviously, the lens comes with front and back caps. Also comes with the box / manual / service documents but I think the warranty has run out (not entirely sure).

So there you have it, I'm asking £220 or next offer for her + shipping. It'll have to be insured recorded shipping because this is, at least to me, expensive. Alternatively, if you want to come down (or up / across) to Oxford to pick her up that would be great as well.

Just found a Sigma 100-300mm f4.5/f6.7 going for 25GBP with just a few hours left. It's long, cheap, and should be fast enough for you.

So I'm looking for a fast normal lens to replace my SMC-FA 50mm f1.4. I really like the quick glass, so at first I was only thinking of going for the Sigma 30mm f1.4.

However, after playing with the FA50 in some low-light situations, I think I can deal with f1.8, maybe even f2.0 if I really need too. So given this, I've added a few more lenses to the hunt. Which would you guys want?

Pentax 35mm f2.0
Sigma 30mm f1.4
Sigma 28mm f1.8
Sigma 24mm f1.8
or ... save you money for a year and buy the Pentax 31mm LTD f1.8

Hey, there's 2 28mm Miranda, and here, going for cheapish on Ebay, 3 hours left. If you can get it for less than 20GBP it'd be a pretty good deal.

EDIT: There are a ton of 24/28mm f:2.0/2.8 going in the next few hours on the bay. Keep an eye out and you may be able to get something nice.

Man, you're a few months ago! I bought a chinon 50mm f1.7 (a re-branded Pentax 50mm f1.7) and then the Miranda 24mm afterwards! Then came the big mirror lens and a Pentax FA 50mm f1.4.

I really like the 24mm, I'd actually prefer wider, but they start getting real slow after 24mm. The best you can get is something like this but that's no faster than a kit lens.

Best of luck on your hunt!

I've got the same lens as that Miranda and I like it quite a bit.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sigma-28mm-F1-8-Pentax-KAF-fit-lens_W0QQitemZ180475186976Q... is what I'm thinking. I just wish I was paying attention when it was on sale.

I've been working quite a bit at trying to develop my photography skills. From what I gather there are two major elements to good photography. The first are the technical elements, and they are the easiest to develop. Content, on the other hand, is much more difficult and won't be the focus of this topic.

I'm looking at this thread as both a FAQ for others and as a way to help me develop my own knowledge. To keep it simple, I just want links to other places here. The links can be to a website with a good tutorial or even other threads on this forum. I'll re-edit this from time to time adding these links into the below list either from ya'll or from things I find. Also, feel free to write up a better explanation of anything and post it in a separate topic and I'll link that. Finally, if you've got ideas for additional categories, let me know, any feedback is welcome.

This is going to be an ongoing work-in-progress so don't expect too much all at once. I've only done the basic stuff for now.

Basic SLR Camera Operation:
Effect of aperture on Shutter
Effect of aperture on depth of field
The green button - it is your friend
The AE-L button - The green buttons best friend

Advanced SLR Camera 'Stuff':
Use of histogram in getting a good picture
High-dynamic range images
How to take a picture of the moon
Circle of confusion
Macro Tubes, reversed lenses, macro lenses

Lighting:
Advantages of external Lighting (hammerhead, camera mounted, flash stands)
Bouncing the flash
Flash improvement techniques (E.g. wax paper to reduce the sharpness of the flash)
Isolation techniques (Light cubes, studio setups)

Post-Processing:
Sharpening
High-Dynamic Range images
Isolation techniques when not done with lighting
RAW versus JPG
Software Packages (Photoshop, Gimp, Lightroom) / Plugins (noise ninja, etc)
Working in TIFF versus JPG

Rules of Composition:
The rule of thirds
The golden mean
The triangle
Frame in a frame
Leading lines
The circle
Rhythm
Negative space
