I had a YN560III and a set of RF-603II Yongnuo triggers delivered this week and have been having a play. I have to agree with what many have been saying and recommend them both. Really well made (being a Chinese brand I was wary) and work brilliantly.

Manual flash takes very little time to learn and really helps in developing your skills. Plus I have found that P-ttl is a bit rubbish on my KR & K5 and use my Af360FGZ in manual anyway.

Since the YN560III is only about £50 new, try it. If it isn't for you, stick it on eBay and you will almost certainly get at least £40 back for it.

Thanks again everyone. I will take a look at the Wein set and the Phottix Strato II and see what I can afford to spend!

I would like to say a big Thank you to all for your help. I am feeling a little intimidated to be honest but you have certainly helped ease my fears.

I think I will eventually be buying my own gear but think it makes sense to see how I get on with everything before shelling out. Are the RF triggers universal (generic, pocket wizard or other) with most lighting equipment? I think it might be worth getting my own anyhow but am clueless about brands, compatibility and ratings etc.

I have a studio booked for a day at the end of the month to do some family shots and some simple fashion products photography. The studio has a full Bowens lighting set-up which I am free to use, all I need to bring are my cameras and subjects.

Now, I have done a decent amount of strobist, multi-off-camera flash stuff but this is my first time using pro studio gear. I have no idea how to connect my cameras (K5 & K-r)to the lights. I have a yongnuo remote flash hotshoe trigger and receiver but no cables - I don't even know what a sync cable looks like, let alone which I need.

Can anyone be of any help? I would ask the studio owner but he is on holiday until two days before and if I need to buy anything specific (I was told he couldn't remember the last time someone who used the studio shot with a Pentax) then I will probably need to order it.

Can someone shed some light on this?

Hi all, I am pretty new to posting in these forums (more used to soaking up the amazing information) so please forgive me if someone else has covered this - I looked but did not find.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 phone which I noticed listed amongst it's features the ability to use it as a remote control for a TV, which got me thinking. I don't have a remote trigger for my KR or K5 so thought I would find out if I could use my phone to do the job.

Well it turns out I can! Admittedly I had to resort to finding an app to do it (and trying several of those that didn't work!) but I can thoroughly vouch for this one!

It's called DSLR Remote (Samsung with IR) by ALNAQEEB and it works with pretty much all major brands. It allows you to swap between them by swiping too if you use different ones, even allowing bulb release. It costs a pound via the play store, but I can report it works great on both my cameras.

Apologies once again if I am in the wrong place, but it's info I would have liked!

Meanwhile - don't throw the K-r out - the more you get to know it the more you will appreciate it.
I have no intention of getting rid of my beloved 'stormtrooper'! The K5 is really for my better-half, the Kr is my plaything and is still far more capable than I am!

Thanks for the welcome everyone, it is very much appreciated!

I have been a Kr owner for a few years now and have been getting more and more into digital photography along with my fiancee, who likes doing studio portrait stuff and has done a few weddings.

I have to admit to having been lurking around this site for a while, soaking up the information and learning lots but never feeling I had anything to contribute. But I feel I need to get a bit more involved now, especially after picking up a fantastic K5 from the classifieds from forum regular Lennybloke (recommended!) I want to be a part of the community.

So hello and thanks, you have been a wonderful resource to me already!

Oh, and if there is anyone with a specific interest of Motorsport photography, I would love to hear from them!

Thanks!

Hi, is this still for sale?

And would it be possible to pick up in person if it is?
